EDIS on a Triple Carbed Datsun ...issues???

Post by CygnusX1 »

We just finished installing a 3.0 Datsun L motor with a pretty hefty cam, and triple 45 DCOE's. The ignition is EDIS-6 firing 6 brand new Coil-on-Plugs. Everything is confirmed working and the timing is correct on the cam and on the ACB firing order vs the 1-5-3-6-2-4 firing order on the L motor. We have confirmed, confirmed, and confirmed it's all in time. In fact, the timing light shows us 8 degrees BTDC on cylinder #1 and #6 with EDIS in limp mode. All cylinders spark correctly and consitently.

PROBLEM.

The motor will NOT fire up with all 6 COP on the plugs. With 1,2,3 COP on, the engine runs on the front three! With 4,5,6 on the engine runs on the back three! With all of them connected, the motor pops blasts and refuses to even fire up.

Any ideas??? We ran a heavy power and ground direct to the battery to rule out power starvation to EDIS and the Coils. :?:

PLEASE!!

Coil Trigger-A C B A C B
Cylinder------1 5 3 6 2 4

But it runs on the back three OR the front three. Not on all of them at the same time. Could it be some kind of interference when ALL coils are on the spark plugs?

MegaJolt is left disconnected until we get it running.

When you say COP, can you describe your hardware exactly?

On top of each spark plug are Accel brand coils from a Lincoln Town car V8. We think we have found the issue. The owner of the car had fabricated the harness with the coil pairs in parallel to eachother. COP groups need to be in series so that the current flows evenly through both coil pairs. When the hurricane passes, I will re-make the harness.

Right. I'm pretty certain this has been discussed before and you're correct - they should be in series. As an aside, if I could use COP on my RV8 (can't really due to heat from the exhaust) I'd go for active types with built in ignitor driven directly from MS.
