Pin 30 Fan Control

Post by brockbenson »

Hi All,

I needed some advise on setting up fan control on my MS2 V3.0 code 2.920.

I set PM2 - Fidle (pin #30) for fan control as it was unused in my application. As a test with the engine off and cold (23'C), I set the conditions to coolant > 20'C and coolant < 30'C to test the functionality. The Port 0 indicator turned red to the ON position. I changed the > setting to 25'C and the Port 0 indicator switched to off.

This tells me the system is working fine. The problem is when the Port 0 indicator showed ON, and I tested wire #30, there was no voltage (some milli-volts) only. I was expecting to see around 12V when on. I was going to use this switching to run the relay for the fans.

Have I got this all wrong or have I missed a step out in the process?

Please help :(

I have attached a couple of screen shots of the Output Port Settings FYI.

Brock,

The FIdle pin doesn't supply a voltage, instead it grounds a device that has been supplied with a steady 12V (like a relay). So you won't see 12V on the pin.

For an example, see how a TCC is wired through a relay on the FIdle pin here: http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/spare.htm#tcc

Hi All,

Thanks for the advise Lance, I remember reading that - lets put it down to newbie mistake :D

I have since hooked everything up correctly but still am having some issues. I have set the fan 'on' temp to >85c. As the temp comes up from cold and hits 85c the fans start (all good up to here). The temp keeps rising a couple degrees until the fans weave their magic then the temp starts to drop (all as expected). However when the temp drops below 85c the fans keep on running. I can see via TunerStudio that the ECU is keeping the port grounded (Port 0 On highlighted in red). The fans can drop the temp all the way down to 78c but they still do not switch off.

It must be a setting, but I have tried several variation with no success. Can anyone provide some assistance with this?

I have included a couple of screen shots showing FAN OFF, FAN ON and FAN STAYING ON.

Thanks in advance,

BB
