Sorry, PalmLog is written specifically to communicate via serial port. The source code is freely available to others who want to extend the functionality further.

Does anybody know if the M125 will work?
Any mods required?
Edit: To answer my own question, it appears that the M125 uses the same connectivity as the M500 series, according to this wikipedia entry.

From the first post in this thread it looks like the M500 has TTL capability, so if the M125 also has that capability, then you could use a MAX232 chip to convert the Palm's TTL to RS232 to talk to the MS. There may be other ways but RS232 communication is pretty well rock solid. An alternative to the MAX232 is the DS275 chip I posted on page 1, available from RS Components in Oz, it doesn't need the 4 external caps, and steals power from the RS232 lines. However it probably won't run fast enough for MS2 datalogging applications. If you use a MAX232 you could use 5V from the MS and run that up the serial cable. The MAX232 is fairly bulletproof so go that way if in any doubt.
Just for info for this thread, I recently got a Tungsten T, it does RS232 no worries, and is a very strong, quality unit. Everything on it works better or finer than the Palm V series and Sony Clie that I am comparing it with. What I also like about this Palm is it has the best screen visibility I have seen in daylight or shade, good battery life, compact, strong!!! (don't ask me how I know) and fast with a 144MHz processor. I see they are still fairly cheap in USA.

So the Tungsten T will do the job without needing the TTL conversion chip?
I'm trying to keep things as simple as possible.
I have bought 3 second hand Palm IIIc's so far and none of them will power on. I'm awaiting a new battery, but I don't think its going to work somehow.
Thats why I'm looking for another option.

I am such an eeeediot.
I bought a serial cable and usb charge cable for the Palm IIIc from ebay.
It turns out that the charge cable had pin 10 as 5v and pin 9 as GND instead of pin 9 as 5v.
After switching the wires around, it actually powers on

It seems to me the PalmVIIx has the older non-upgradeable operating system. If that's the case, it won't work.
PalmLog supports MS2, but has not been tested with MS2Extra that I'm aware of. The actually logging portion of the program should work if configured properly in the setup screen. Displayed runtime values will likely be off, as that aspect is hard-coded in the PalmLog to suit each version of MS embedded code.

Ive got it running on Palm VIIx (8mb)
You need to upgrade the OS from the palm site.
Serial port wise its the same as the Palm III
So maybe they can add this to the list on the first page.

the version I am running is 3.5.3
I dont remember what it was running earlier but I just went to the palm site and downloaded the latest OS upgrade i could find which was 3.5.3
I got a Palm to serial cable off ebay for 4$ they didnt have a cable for the VIIx so I got one for the Pam III.
Now I can use it without the docking station.
Im runing MS Extra. Ive set the ms2 v2.3 option on
Rtu=A
Bytes= 152
Havent updated to the PC yet. But it I do and face any problems Ive been told to use Bytes = 112
Runing MS Extra II.

A tip for those who have Palm V or Vx, set up a shortcut to the digitizer with one of the buttons, that way if the Palm ever crashes or resets or the digitizer becomes difficult, just press the button and you can go straight into the digitizer to make it right. My V used to drive me nuts until I did that. After doing that, the V and Vx are a very good unit IMO.

yes, thats a great tip.
my other Vx makes that and it was like heck. but i found some other problems with it (can not upload anything, "not enough memory" with 7MB free out of 8MB
) so its laying around until i find a solution.
but one is working proberly so i'm not in a hurry ...

If it can't be fixed it will be good for spare parts. A clothes iron can soften the hot glue on the edges of the unit so it can be opened. Spare battery, screen, digitizer etc. I wonder if reloading the OS4.1 would fix it?

does OS4.1 work? i looked at Palm.com and read that OS3.5.3 is the newes the Vx could handle. the working one upgraded form OS3.5.0 to OS3.5.3 correctly, but the non working refuses to upgrade with "not enough memory" and i don't know any other way to flash the OS via hotsync, the way Palm describes on the webside. read that there is a debug mode, i can enter this but don't know what to do then
