Ethanol

I have run what was originally a 3 liter KE Jetronic engine on Megasquirt with all of the original fuel supply system for several thousand km´s .
No problems whatsoever except for cold starts.
Due to E85 cost tuned back to petrol and the car has now another 100.000 km on it, total of 380.000 with the same fuel pump!
Recently SAAB has had to call back quite a few new cars running on flexifuel ( ie E85) since the fuel pumps conked out . This was due to that the carbon brushes did not last when running in E85 !
MY guess is that an old BOSCH pump from a KJet system will last very long on E85.

Hello,
so it isn't clear what will resist or not to ethanol, some very old pump will, and other more recent not.
I keep on seeking info on that

Yes, what exactly is subject to deterioration? is it the wire coil on the armature do to the resin they use to seal it? is it the metal casing usually aluminum? the brushes? enquiring minds want to know, i will investigate.

seems that is is mainly the fact that there is exposed aluminum and also the fact that gasoline is not conductive and ethanol is. who knows, trial and error would seem to be the best test. anyone have pumps they know failed due to ethanol exposure, and also ones that seem to last?

I have been asking this question at the E85 forum and someone replied this weekend that bosch injectors made after 1988 will resist the problems with ethanol. Now what "resist" actually means has yet to be determined.
