Re: planning an MS system for a Pontiac 455
EDIS is the way to go and here's the reason.
Distributors only have 1 coil normally.
I run a winding small block that I like to really wind up.
I'm old school, more RPMs = more power. F1 cars run out about 24,000 RPM.!!!
And for coil on plug with a V8 F1 car, it's still gives 5 ms per spark.
On my small block V8 with a dizzy -
At 8,000 RPM there is 1.875 ms between sparks. Not enough time.
At 6,000 there's 2.5 ms between sparks. Most coils usually require 3 ms to charge up fully.
That's why in the old days we ran spark plug gaps of 25 thou... 35 would quit and 45, - - forget it.
At 8,000 EDIS gives 7.5 ms per spark. Oh what I would have given for this 40 years ago...
And the twin 500CFM TBI's sound like the way to go.
My thoughts were always double the cubic inches and you have the proper CFM.
455 times 2 = 910, that's about 1,000 CFM. 2 500 CFM TBI's. Perfect.
Using a bellcrank or similar should give an OK tip-in on the throttle. (Not too abrupt)
Sounds perfect.
Let us know in the MSruns of your success. I wanna know. Post a link to your success here with an MSQ.
I'll keep subscribing to this post. I don't know how to do a dual TBI or a 3 x 2 bbl setup. But I really would like to.
Hope this helps.
