Any update on this issue? I have a similar situation and engine set-up as OP. Gen 1 SBC 8 pin small cap external coil that momentarily cuts out (tack misses) at about 1500 rpm. I did some of the same exercises as OP (isolate wires add grounds ect).

Here you go. I sure hope I loaded those correctly......The ignition skip or "going to zero" is at 3048.

There is an RPM drop (to zero) at 2885 and the other "ign skip" is at 3055 not 3048 as I stated above. There is no ignition skip at the 2885 RPM drop which seems odd, as tach signal comes from the coil.

I also had a problem that sounds like it is similar to what you describe. The MSnE modification seemed to help it quite a bit, but vary rarely it would still pop up. I never did solve it. If you search my profile you will see I have a thread about the problem I was having. I am now switched over to EDIS-8 and haven't had any ignition issues since the switch.
