What is a "shield"?

Ditto, what is SAW? and what is PIP?

Also I am looking into doing an Edis6 setup on a 4.3 vortec. I don't understand the wiring diagram, I have all the components, I think. The way I understand the Edis wiring diagram is the 12 pin thing is the edis ignition module, mine has 24 pins. Very confused, got my stuff from a late model Taurus 3.0 V6.

And what are the little cube things on the left of the 12 pin thing?

 I sound like a retard!

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,

You should have the module that looks like this,

Also a coil pack that looks similar to this, except you should have six spark plug terminals,

more info as well here - http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra ... uneed.html

To add to the above, I think the shield you are asking about is just a metal "wrap" around a wire to help reduce noise in the signal that wire is carrying. On a VR sensor it is a good idea to use a twisted shielded pair for the wiring. The twist helps reduce the noise the two wires might cause to each other and the shield helps reduce the noise from other sources (any electrical wire or magnet near your wire). Keep in mind you only ground one end of the shield. Hope that helps

Brian.

Thanks guys, you are very helpful! BUT, the edis6 module that I think I have has a different part number than the ones on the list. It is from a late 90s Taurus 3.0 v6 and it doesn't have 12 pins, it has 24 pins. I don't understand the wiring diagram. What is the 12 pin thingy? if it is the module than what do I do with the other 12 pins? Tie them into a pretty bow?

Thank you

Phil

All of the EDIS modules have 12pins, and look like the above module, if you have a module that looks like a metal box with a large 24pin connector on it, you have a CCRM module, or Constant Control Relay Module. Although handy to have if you want to control a car with Megasquirt and need the relays, it won't work for EDIS.

AFAIK they are all mounted in the engine compartment somewhere, the location of the module is different depending on the year and model.
I know the taurus was limited as to EDIS6 availability, look on the explorers, rangers and aerostars, they most all had EDIS after 1991, the module is located behind the passenger side headlight.
