Slide gate throttles..

Hello all!

Given the low cost now of laser cutting and such, has anyone revisited slide gate throttles? I know jaguar tried it in the 1960's, but has anyone tried it since? I reckon it would be great for those of us without much room - plus on my setup it could go on without any other mods to the intake (so I would have a plenum and six equal-length runners). Ideas and pictures, anyone??

Kendall.

Pretty common stuff here at NA rally cars. Tuned a few of those (alpha-N) and they work pretty good. Can be mechanically a bit noisy at idle if too much clearance and good off idle transition needs a bit tuning too. Good air filter or periodically cleaning is a must.

So, not really practical on a regularly driven road car? I suppose OEM's would use them on their high powered stuff if it was a good proposition.

I think the reason you don't see them on OEM apps is because slide throttle would likely be an ongoing maintenance issue. It's much easier to seal the rotating shaft on a butterfly type throttle than it is a slide throttle and much, MUCH easier to ensure that they're still sealed after 50 or 100,000 kms
