hi
im in the process of squrting a bmw m10 engine and the standard clt is single wire measuring resistance between it and ground
as i understand it the ms uses a 5v ref signal to get a reading so my sensor cannot be used ?
the problem i have is the cooling system is a maze of 90 degree bends so there is little space to fit a sender adaptor into the top hose
the sensor housing is m14 x 1.5 thread does anyone know of a sensor with this thread which is ms compatable eg 2 wire
i would use the gm sensors but 3\8 npt taps are very hard and expensive to get in the uk and the 14mm dia is to big to allow me to re tap it for 3\8 npt anyhow
can anone help
many thanks

No need to change your oem sensor, MS can use it. Only thing you have to figure out is the resistance/temp curve. It's prob. a bosch sensor so it should be no problem.

I think that a BMW 740i (E32) unit will solve your problem. The BMW part number is 12621288158. According to RealOEM.com this is a M14x1.5 sensor, it is #10 on the list in the link below.

I found the resistance of this listed on the web as shown below, this has the resistance as dropping with increasing temperature, which is what I believe that you want with MS. As I said I got this off the web, so I don't know that this is accurate. The page that I got it from is linked below.

-10 +/- 1 degree C resistance (k ohms) 7-11.6
20 +/- 1 2.1-2.9
80 +/-1 0.27-0.40

The following link is to a company that sells part in Europe and gives a list of all the vehicles that you can get this part out of.

I just went through this trying to find a two wire British pipe thread sensor for my car, so my coolant temp sensor searching skills are well honed at the moment.

Edit------------------------------

This page shows that it's a two wire sensor, search for a TX51 sensor
