How to find values for CLT Coolant Temp Sensor?

I've done a few searches now and know where to input the values into my MS-II for the coolant temp sensor but cant find an idiots guide for how to get these values :(

I'd like to retain the sensors that came with the car a 1997 renault clio as the recomended GM parts are not easily available in the UK as far as I can tell. I have 2 different sensors to try one is a Siemens made sensor with a part # of 1430-1 154-91 and the other seems to be made by elbi (?) and has a part # of TRC-200 on it. I cant find anything online that has the resistance values recorded.

I have ice in the freezer and a pan of water bubbling away and a multimeter at the ready but I'm struggling with what to measure. If I put the multimeter across the 2 pins of the sensors it looks like an open circuit, so should I be reading a voltage drop across the 2 pins?

Please help as I have managed the physical build of this so far but electronics are not my strongest point and I'm on a steep learning curve.

Spud I'll use as reference the CLT values for the Bosch CLT sensor in my 1986 Alfa GTV6.Its resistance values are as follows:

- 20 deg.C = 9500 ohms
+20 deg.C = 2500 ohms
+80 deg.C = 350 ohms

If you are seeing open circuit at room temperature either you meter settings are incorrect or your sensor is no good.You should be able to track down some temp./resistance values for your sensors somewhere on the web ?

well if you have the setting on the meter right and leads in the right holes then you probly got a temp switch not a thermisitor. temp switchs are usally used for cooling fans. i would take a closer look around the coolant outlet of the head or near it for another sensor and test that. also you may try going repair shop and see if they have service information for that car or go to the dealer and ask them "how to test it to see if its good" or tell them your temp gauge dosent work and what sensor would cause that and if they have one in stock, ask them to see it and where its located on the motor. make them think you are going to buy it or more parts. dealers will be more giving on the info if you are going to buy from them.
