has anyone ever used an autometer temperature sensor instead of using the GM temperature sensor? i tried searching and couldnt come up with anything.
the reason why im asking is because i cant seem to find a temperature sensor adapter that is tapped for 3/8th npt since all aftermarket ones are 1/8th npt

Are you looking for a 1/8 or 3/8? The 3/8 seems to be the more common one for temp. There are part numbers for both GM ones listed in the manual the 3/8 seems to be a stock item at most stores, the 1/8 I have found to be a 'warehouse' item. If your engine needs 1/2 you can get an adapter at a hardware store and use the 3/8. Remember that temp sensors like to be in the flow so T's dont work well like they do for things like oil pressure.
Any temp sensor should work you just have to take the time to calibrate them.

i actually bought the 3/8th NPT sensors from DIYAutoTune, and im more then likely going to use it. the main thing is, when i installed a temperature gauge on my other cars, i used a hose connector that had a spot for the sensor itself. rather then drilling into the thermostat housing, i figured i would just get a hose connector for it. the main problem i am having is that i cant seem to find a connector that has 3/8th NPT fittings on them as they are all 1/8th NPT. rather then going custom made, i was wondering if anybody has actually used an autometer one before.
the problem with taking the time to calibrate this sensor is that i dont have the material or equipment to handle such a task.

1/4 was the other size listed in the manual... I thought it was 1/8.
You must be working on a fairly old engine if it does not have any extra holes. Most motors after the late 60's or early 70's have plenty of holes because of the emissions stuff they put on. Or is this not a car?

its for an 89 accord, so somewhat newer. it doesnt have any extra holes or anything, that is why i ask if i can use an autometer sender since i can easily get the adapters for the hoses rather then fabricating something on the housing itself
