I've got a nissan 240sx with the KA24E engine. I'm looking at the wiring diagrams and I see it has a power transistor unit that fires the coil. It appears the power transistor uses a positive input then sends a ground to the coil itself. The FSM says that the ECU outputs 0.3v - 0.6 at idle and 1.2v - 1.5v at 2000 rpm if that helps. Is there any way to get the MS2/3.0 to output a usable signal to this?

The alternative would be to bypass the PTU and have the VB921 fire the coil directly. I'd like to see if I could make it work with the stock system if at all possible though. I just dont know enough about circuit design to figure out what needs to be done.

im not sure i can help all that much, but i can tell you i tried to use the stock PTU on my 300zx, and it was nothing but problems. In the end it was much easier just to use the VB921.

Thanks for the tip. I might just use the VB921 after all. That was the article I used to help configure mine, actually. At the bottom iirc it said "if anyone had any info on using the power transistor we'd love to hear about it," which initially caught my attention since it meant it might be possible.

What engine was in the Z? Was it the VGDE or the VGE? I know the DE has a large PTU so it can run all 6 coils indepently, but I don't know about the single cam motor. Does it have a single coil or 6 of them? What exactly was the problem? And how did you connect the MS to the PTU? Just connect the output normally going to the VB921 to the PTU instead?

Sorry for all the questions but this interests me greatly, and I'd like to know more about it.
