I'm in IAC heck

I need some help with the initial settings of the IAC valve.
I've read the information on the IAC set-up in the manuals and attempted searches on this message board and the MSII forum. Unfortunately I just can't seem to grasp the basic set-up.
I have a MSII ECU using a GM IAC motor. When I bench test the device to try to determine the range of motion the pintle the device consistently launches across the engine bay. Because of the multiple installations of the pintle, I have no idea of the start (base) position. Can somebody walk me through the set-up and provide some initial settings that will at least get me into the ball park? I feel confident that the wiring is correct as the pintle, on start, retract and then extends. The car starts easily and idles steady (although high rpm). I can't really move forward with tuning until I set the idle parameters.
The car is fully warmed (92deg OAT) at the 142 deg mark on the Megatune screen.
Advice on this subject would be appreciated. BTW, I have the Clewett Engineering valve body.
Thanks,
Jim S.
