GM DIS Sensor Wheel Questions

Post by np75 »

I have a non-GM four cylinder engine to which I am adding a GM DIS set up. On the Megamanual instructions its specifies that TDC on #1 corresponds to a certain notch(the one before the notch with the 10 deg sync notch). My understanding is that these GM systems are designed so that they don't accept the ECU timing signals during cranking and automatically run 10 degrees timing untill the ECU supplies a reference signal. I am unsure if I need to set the wheel and sensor so that the timing signal is generated 10 degrees advanced, or set it so that it is corresponds exactly to the #1 TDC and that the advance is generated in the module?

A second question is how thick I should make the sensor wheel. I recall reading somewhere that it should be at least as thick as the pole piece in the sensor which is ~5mm in this case.

Thanks for any help,

Nic
