Eratic Inj. Pulsewidth...

I posted this in the ignition setup...but I think it is better suited here.....Sorry...
Hey guys,
I never like to start out on a forum as a noob with questions but I can't think of anything else. I've got an 87 mitsu starion running the factory style 2 injector TBI setup. I've been running a stand alone that runs megatune on it for over a year...but it was not a megasquirt. I recently bought a MS1 2.2 with the MSII daughter board to replace the computer I was running. The car it came off of was running 4 inj and EDIS. I'm still on the distributor for now and would like to tune for fuel only before I went to EDIS. I purcased a new harness and sensors from DIY to ensure i had a smooth transisiton. I don't have any noise with my sensors or tach signal. So I was leaning away from that issue...could be wrong.
My old computer was basically a hacked ms1. I transfered my map, which was 8x8 fuel only to the "new" msII...I went back through all of the settings to ensure they were right and my VE #'s looked good. Inj charactaristics are right...low imp. So anyways....I can be idleing...barely...and my pulsewidths will drop from 3.5 ish to 1.3...1.4...around there....car will lean out and die. None of the sensor readings change and the VE #'s don't change until the car is already on the way down. My tach signal folows it down...so its not losing signal or anything. I don't have anyway of datalogging right now so that won't help....
Since the computer was setup for EDIS I was curious if that could be causing any issues with the signal. I also zeroed out all of the ignition settings to try and fix things...no luck. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
Braden

Please post a data log of the engine idling, along with a copy of the MSQ. This will help me take a look at what the ECU "thinks" it's doing.

I don't have a way to do either right now...I have an old laptop I can't get info on or off of anymore. I purchased the usb to serial adapter that ya'll sell but still can't get it to work with my vista system. I was talking with a buddy and he is convinced that it needs to be harwired back for fuel only. Since it was wired for EDIS...but I'm not sure.

How old and what O/S? Are you tuning with this laptop?

My tuning laptop is a 98 toshiba laptop...no usb...no modem. Had CD drive but has since quit working. I origianly burned megatune onto a CD and got it to work that way. My "good" laptop is a new HP with windows vista...which I can't get to connect. Again...I'm pretty sure that my computer needs to be wired for fuel only in order to accept a coil feed. But I guess I'm going to go pick up some EDIS parts today and try that route.

Do you have a PCMCIA adapter with a CF memory card on the old laptop you could use? These can be had fairly cheap.

Yes....But since I damaged the CD drive I can't download the Driver

.....I just went and pick up EDIS parts...hopefully it will work out.

I don't think you will need a driver, but I could be wrong. I'm using an old Win98 touchscreen computer with my MS2, so I feel your pain.

Yeah I bought one off Ebay that I could find....came with CD...DOH!!!....I'm going to try to get it running on the EDIS tomorrow and will post updates...
I fried my other computer on accident...I put 12v on a 5v sensor...whoops...Its basically a MS1....I don't know what to do with it.

You fried the MS1 or the laptop?

The MS1....I can see one resistor or cap...not sure....that doesn't look right....but no spots on the board or anything. It won't power up or anything.

OK.....
I got the car running on EDIS.....and still have the same problem. 15-16 secs pulsewidth and dutycycle both drop for no apparent reason.....
Could this be a setting for my inj charact? I have them setup via the megamanual for low impedence inj. They ohm at 2.5.....I'm really lost now.
I don't know if I've mentioned this...My computer has has the flyback board on it.....but I'm only running 2 inj low impedance....Would this have any effect on my settings?

Ok....I'm trying to trouble shoot the best I know how so stay with me.....
I have 2 1025 cc inj with a required fuel of 4.4 and on alternating
Theoretically the same VE can be achieved on one injector with 8.8 requried fuel on simultaneous...
Doing this both injectors will run the car and idle on bank 1....but niether on bank 2....Bank 2 is working but not the same....
If I run the 1 injector off bank one the car does the opposite if it is hooked up on both banks and both injectors...after 15-16 seconds the pulsewidths go from 3.4 to 6.2 ish and flood the car out.....
This has to be an injector setting or hardware setting with the flyback board that is casuing my issues...I just don't know what

This would be much easier for me to help you if you could find a way to upload a data log of the problem and a copy of your MSQ file. Maybe you could get them off the tuning laptop with a USB thumb drive?

I'll try to find a laptop that will connect...my vista system will not. Do you think the flyback board and only running 2 injectors could have anything to do with it...I'm about to go to a 4 injector setup but wanted to get it running decent on the current intake...

I got a hold of another vista laptop...and could not connect...I've got the cable that DIY sells and dl'ed the driver straight from the site with no luck....

Matt,
While doing some reading in megamanual I found this.
The Flyback board must be used in conjunction with embedded code version 2.986 or higher. This code has the proper switching code to turn the Flyback circuits on after PWM ends.
The highest code I have on my tuning laptop is 2.88....Could using the wrong firmware or code cause my problems.

That is a reference to MS1 code; all MS2 codes support the flyback board. It sounds like this is a tuning issue, possibly acceleration enrichment kicking in too easily. I will need a data log and an MSQ to be able to check this.

Maybe it's time for that PCMCIA adapter with a CF memory card on the old laptop, to get out a datalog.

Is there a reboot I could do on the megasquirt? So that I could start from scratch...Is that possible?
