Bike won't start with FI

Post by cahillicus »

I am having trouble getting my bike to start on fuel injection. I recently took it out on a test-ride with carbs and the MS controlling the GM DIS ignition system. It ran great. It will sputter a little while cranking, but that is it. The VE table should be very close because I got the values from another guy who has squirted the same bike as mine. I am currently set up for 2 simultaneous squirts per cycle. I have an AEM wideband controller/sensor. I played with the cranking pulse numbers a little bit but without luck.

I have read the manual :RTFM: and am looking for more guidance. I will post a log and msq asap.

The bike is 2 valve, 4 cylinder, 1100cc, DOHC. I don’t have very good numbers for HP/torque at certain RPM, and no good numbers for MAP values at those RPM. So, the required fuel calculator is limited. I am not sure where to start. What increments of change should I use for value changes? What are the baseline setting I should be starting from…? The manual is often very specific about what setting do/are, but extremely vague in terms of whether it is ‘for you’ or not.

Did you try adjusting the cranking pulses.

Is your buddy that gave you the VE table running this same configuration?

I did initially and had no luck. Turns out I was still way off. I talked to my buddy and got a more reasonable number, and it fired right off. I will be test riding soon. I want to use the automatic mixture control to further configure VE tables. The manual says it has to be in 'closed loop,' but I can't find where to select closed loop in the manual or megatune. Is closed loop the default?

"Closed loop" is the slang term for driving with the WBO2 actively changing the VE table using Autotune or Automatic Mixture Control, (AMF). If you tune this way, do not forget to cancel out your Accel tables by setting a super high TPSdot and MAPdot. Personally, I prefer MLV for tuning the VE table.
