Duratec Focus wants to meet refined Returnless...

No. not MATCH.com... Hello to the MS gurus and shadetree mechs. I am needing to find if anyone has succeded in PWM-ing the stock OEM returnless fuel pump? I'm using an MS2 3.57, dual coil drivers and an Innovate WB O2. The engine is inline w/a Ranger M5, 5-speed connected to a Dana 36 '85 vette rear, in a '31 Model A. It would be most lovely if...if I could run the system returnless. A second line returning to the cowl tank is tough to work out, and w/a pump tank and all stock Ford fuel system is in place, ready to be modulated...any tips or experiences are welcomed!

I did some work on a feul pump modulator but found it was more difficult to control that I had though. My simple control had problems with overshooting the pressure sometimes and had problems when the supply voltage changed. Looked like a PID control was going to be needed. So I put it away and installed a normal fuel pressure regulator on the fuel filter that was hidden away and run one line from there to the fuel rail. Then after adding some garolite insulators to the fuel rails it works perfectly. James

James, the methods are appreciated...I wondered if using the regulator meant that you were controlling the fuel pump with it? Using a feedback signal, or simply returning the excess fuel to a point upstream from the pump? Thanks, Pitman

First I tried using feedback from a pressure sensor to run a duty cycle controller for the pump. Needed PID.
Then I tried using the injector pulsewidth to vary the duty cycle for the pump. Showed promise but I gave up before I I got it all worked out.
Took the easy way out and used a regular pressure regulator at the fuel filter insted of the fuel rail and retured fuel to the tank. James
