Toyota 4AGE MR-2 with MSD-6A

I'm up to the point in my MSII/PCB3.0 build where I have to start installing the ignition system. I've been through the manual, the install article and the Toyota VAST specific documentation that is online. I wanted to post this issue here to see if I'm overlooking anything.

Form what I've seen the distributor in teh VAST system puts out a signal similar to a VR signal, but this is converted to a square wave by the Toyota ignition module for the ECU to use. I'd like to get the car up and running first with the stock ignition system, but will shortly convert to the MSD ignition. If i remove the stock ignition module it appears that I'll lose this square wave back to the ECU when I convert to a MSD system, should I then just try to use the VR signal that is output directly from the distributor?

I'd appreciate any input on this subject and would especially like to hear from anyone that has sucessfully run a Megasquirt AW11 with a MSD ignition. Thanks for the help.

The VAST module does convert the VR sine wave to a square wave. If going MSD, I'd just keep the VAST module in there and trigger the MSD off the stock coil negative wire.

I would keep the stock ignition driver and ignition coil, firing the MSD with the stock coil which would then fire the crane cams coil that I'll be using? This seems like I'd be asking for trouble, firing a different ignition system with the stock ignition system.

Matt, I looked up the MSD install information again and I see what you're talking about. I'll take a closer look at it again tonight and I think I'll go ahead with soldering the ignition portion of the board. Thanks again!
