Start up issue

OK, first I think this software is great !!! Here is hardware setup MS2 running MS2E-RC3-2.1.0 06112009, using a normal serial cable, latest rev of TS and Java. Running XP operating system.
'
Here is what I am seeing, first it appears I am only seeing this problem when the com port is active or at least sending and recieving data. This is on a car installed computer 1ghz Intel with 1 gig of ram.
OK, I can turn on the computer, engine off, key off ( MS not running) and TS will start and load the last project and go to full screen, no problems BUT if I shut it down, then turn the key to "run" ( engine still off, therefore doesn't appear to be noise) and let the computer boot up then TS hangs on loading the last project. The work around is to shutdown TS and restart, then it of course looses the "last project" and I have to go and select my project, then it goes ahead and runs normal. I also have to manually go to full screen but I figure under those conditions that would be normal.
One other small thing I notice when selecting a project, with the selection window pulled up, when a project is highlighted, it does not populate the open line, to open the project I have to double click the project file.
Let me know if you need any files, later wd

This sounds like a problem I was having with some bluetooth adapters a while back. But I haven't seen this with a normal serial cable?
Can you zpi and send me your TunerStudioLogFile.txt from your install dir?
By default:
c:\Program Files\EFIAnalytics\TunerStudioMS\

I will send the file as soon as I can, got the car slightly apart right now, cleaning the ICV, after that I can start up the onboard computer and shoot the file to you. DO you want me to post it or email it to you?
thanks wd

There is nothing of significance in the log
But i re-read your post more closely. I originally thought you were getting a hang if you powered off the MS, then powered it back on. Sorry, read too fast.
If i have it right now, you have TS setup to automatically start and launch full screen when the computer boots, for a dedicated car system.
But when it starts it get stuck. But if you restart it it is fine.
Are you launching it from the startup folder of the start menu?
If you don't launch it there, and just start it normally, it does work just fine? Is it only when you are just booting up and it is starting from the startup folder that it hangs?
It almost sounds like it is trying to connect before the device is read?
Does it work if you are coming out of suspend?

Yes, that's correct, the shortcut is in the startup folder, and now I have noticed that it hangs, even it the engine and MS are not started at all. My car computer is setup with a manual start selection toggle switch so that I can have the computer up, running and logging to record engine startup issues if I have any. I was doing some work on my ICV this weekend and turn the computer on and left it for 10-15 minutes and when I came back, I should have had TS in full screen showing not connected but it was still loading last project ??? A shutdown of TS and restart with a manual load of project brought it up, no other issues but thats is not what I am hoping for, want more of a hands off, you know fire the car and drive away and later turn on logging if I want to or not. But at least have the dash screen up and active.
I not sure if this has anything to do with it or not but I am seeing a lost of comm at times, a comm interupt is what is recorded in the logs, I saw it four 4 times on the way to work this morning, its a hour long drive BTW. Bad cable ?? The cable I am using is of course, routed thru the center console but I guess for testing I could run on exposed to see if that will let it boot normally?? At work right now but I have a serial cable with me and could try this on the way home. I haven't been seeing these comm interupts since I changed the buffer sliders down to the "low" setting.
Can't answer on the "suspend" I don't use that on this computer, its either running or not.
thanks wd

I'll have to play around with this and see if I can reproduce it. I rarely reboot anything, they all take too long.
I'll try it on some machine though. I'm guessing that the serial or port service just isn't initialized yet and causes a problem when TS goes to access it. But if that is the case, TS's Watch dog thread should catch it at try again. That is what should be happening
I would bet if there was some way you could delay the start of TS for 15 sec or so, it would be Ok.
On the Comm Interrupt. That is when it looses connection, but regains it within a couple seconds. Generally it is a loose cable on the laptop, like when I am too lazy to tighten the screws. but it could be an intermittent break in the cable too.

Thanks, that is a thought, maybe I could write a batch file that would delay for a set time and then let it start up TS and put that file in the startup folder. I will give that some more thought, have to go in at 3 am tomorrow SO it won't get done tonight for sure !
Its been a long time since I fool with writing any batch files, maybe I can dig up something off the net for a time delay.
thanks again, wd
