Another IAC head scratcher!

Post by Noel »

I cant get the IAC to extend back out from its full retracted position more than about 3/10 of an inch. It needs to extend out 5/8 in. to be seated after warm up. If I enter a small start value and a larger cranking position count and then start turning MS on and off the IAC valve will move further out(extend) each time I cycle the power. By doing this Im able to get the valve all the why out and seated. I then enter a new start value of 260(retract) and a cranking position of 200. I cycle MS off and on, the valve retract all the way back and will still not come back out to the cranking pos. that was selected. The valve comes back out 3/10 of an in. and will not extend more than this regarless of the cranking count I enter. Any Ideas on a solution guys?
Running MS-2 , Rev 2.888 ,4 wire Chry. IAC , 2331cc V-Dub, IAC set at both moving only and also tried always on. Min steps 5. using Tuner S.
Ps, Im driving the car and it runs great (IAC unpluged) Thanks for looking. Noel

A light turned on in my head in the middle of the night. I looked at my IAC warm up table and discovered that the full warm-up count (IAC seated)was set to a count value less than the Cranking count in Idle Control. So, be advised , set up the IAC warm-up table first with a large count spread , say 50 (cold) to 300 (full warm-up) befor you start trying to figure out what counts you need to fully close and open your IAC valve. I was under the impression that when you turn the key on befor cranking the only thing that effected the IAC position was "Idle control, Start count and Cranking posion. Apparently software will not let Idle control exceed warm-up parameters. I think ? Im good to go with my IAC warm up control, so Now its time to start playing with X-Tau!

Hello friend!
I was begining to think I was the only one with a vw and a chrysler TB. I am having the same basic issues that you mention. I will look at your sugestions tomorow. How did you wind up wiring the IAC to the relay board? I have tried every combination possible? Mine either extends on power up or retracts all the way and basicly stays there. I too have tried start #s from 160 to 300 and see no change. The IAC steps vs temp screen shows it moving but the pintle never moves. I have MS2, v3, 2.886, 2276, 52mm tb, 20lb Bosch Inj, EDIS, all in a Ghia.
Thanks Bob
