Megaview works ONLY on stim

For some reason, the MegaView only works on the stim, but not on the engine. The MegaSquirt is working normally. We are using the same serial cable, and even used the same power adaptor we used during testing, but it only works when MegaSquirt is on the stim. What does this mean?

Could be some weird grounding issues. Have you removed pin 9 from the serial cable?

We removed it from the megaview connector, yes.

Anything different about how the MegaView is powered or grounded on the car?

No, we used a 12v adaptor to run it on the stim and we used the same one at the engine. It's an engine on a stand.

You need to have a common ground between the MV and the MS.

We ran it to the battery and it still doesn't work, but now the DB9 gets really hot

It doesn't seem to work with the stim either now but some of the traces on our stim got damaged so it might just be one that I couldn't see to fix
