I modified my MS2, unsure about spark settings

I purchased an MS2 v3.57 from DIY for a Datsun 280Z SBC TBI conversion. It was ordered set up for EDIS although I am starting out with only an early style HEI distributor. I then added the BIP373 transistor and modified the board per the DIY tutorial for direct coil control and installed the MS2 on a stock 1985 300zx. It worked fine but I want to put it back on the 280 now and control fuel only. I can't seem to figure out if I need to change any ignition settings or even remove the ignition driver to prevent possible damage to the MS from not having a coil for it to fire. I found by searching that having an open circuit for the injectors is ok but did not find similar specific info relating to ignition. I don't see how this could be a problem but can't afford to damage it. I ultimately would like to use the MS on both cars and will probably use direct coil instead of EDIS on the 280 as well but for now it will be fuel only. So am I ok to go or am I going to let the smoke out of it? Any help greatly appreciated!

zjasonz,

You can leave the ignition driver unconnected without causing any issues. The driver grounds the coil when it is used, and without a connection to the coil is will either 'float' or ground the pin, but this won't cause any issue. You don't have to change any settings, since these have no effect anyhow with the driver unconnected (and MegaSquirt has no way to monitor whether the driver is doing anything or not).

Thanks Lance! That is what I suspected and now I know why. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
