6 cyl EDIS set up

MS 2 V 3.0 Jag inline 6 cyl. Has any one used an optical input distributor (5 of 6 slots closed off) to trigger a Ford EDIS ignition system? From what I read so far, the slot should be (60 +10) deg BTDC number one cylinder? I am having trouble figuring out the mounting for the 36-1 wheel on my VIB Damper. Thanks

Hi, may have misunderstood the Q, but..
FORD EDIS is a standalone system that use a 36-1 wheel read ( properly phased) by a VR sensor.
The EDIS module converts this to spark drivers that fires 2, 3 och 4 wasted spark coils ( 4, 6 or 8 cyl)
The EDIS has an rpm output, pin 1 which sends out a zerogoing pulse at each ignition event ( PIP , pin 1)
The EDIS base timing is 10 BTDC. By introducing a propoerly timed pulse back to the EDIS ( SAW , pin 3)
timing can be adjusted. MS has a great functionality for this.
So , not really sure what you mean?

I have seen one person who put a 72 tooth gear inside a distributor and filed two opposite teeth off it to mimic the behavior of a 36-1 crank wheel. Not an easy bit of fabrication, and it helped that he managed to find an appropriate gear as a starting point.

Freighters,
If you are going to do your own wheel, you might want to read this:
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/36-1.htm Note that it is important to use a sensor that matches the tooth size.

Thanks for comments: What I was wanting to do is not install 36-1 wheel and VR sensor, but all the remaining EDIS components; Then have crankshaft position input to MS from a modified Optical distributor. There is so much reading and so many variations in the manuals and set up instructions, but It seems the missing tooth triggers a voltage signal to MS , as does the light through the slit on distributor shutter. The distributor sends out 6 voltage signals in 720 deg and the VR wheel sends out two. So reducing the shutter wheel to two slits (180 deg apart), should send two voltage signals to MS in 720 Deg. Is there something coming off the 35 teeth that MS is also looking at? I've got a few months before I do the engine swap and trying to settle on the setup. If this is not electrically possible then I will have to figure a way to mount the VR & wheel. Thanks for looking at this.

The EDIS module must receive a string of 35 pulses followed by gap twice as long as a normal pulse, every crankshaft revolution. This is hardwired into the module. The EDIS module will not respond to any other signal. You must either duplicate the signal the EDIS module is expecting or not use the EDIS module.

Matt, thanks for the clarity, looks like I will look for a 8.5 to 9" 36-1 wheel. Really appreciate the quick response. Rgds David
