Need suggestions on bike start up

Hi all,

I have a goldwing 1100cc with megasquirt 2 controlling fuel and spark. Naturally aspirated, at this point my name is deceiving but I'm keeping my head up. Anyways I keep trying to get this thing started and idling but all I get is running for at most a minute with about half throttle and alot of backfiring (through intake and exhaust). Will only run about 5 - 10sec with no throttle. I set my timing, EDIS with the plug still hooked up to vr sensor and with cranking it is dead on with the stock Fire mark, 13 degrees advance. So I think my timing is pretty close but cant get it to idle to verify timing running. My req fuel is 11 (from what I've read may not be believable but I'm relying on it for now). I set my priming pulse all to 2 ms, -40 through 170F. My cranking pulses, I created a linear curve 88% req fuel -40F and 23% req fuel 170F per tuning manual. I thought my back firing was from being overly rich so I took the cranking pulses down by a factor of 1.0% proportionally. It is still backfiring alot with the leaner settings but my plugs aren't drenched like they were. I also set my after start enrichment to a straight 25% from -40 to 170F, this didn't help much if at all so I upped it to 40% and still backfiring. Does anyone know if my req fuel sounds right? Should I be making my ASE all the same values at this point? (it made sense to me to create a flat curve to get it idling at least). Does anyone have settings from a roughly same size engine I could use?

thanks
JE

See if you can nurse it along with whatever combination of fuel and throttle holds it running - even badly - until the engine is hot. Then dial in the VE in the idle range to get a smooth idle. A correctly dialed in VE table will make it a lot easier to adjust ASE and WUE settings.

All,

one thing always leads to another right? I did as you said Matt which worked quite well and got idling around 950rpm. My problem now is that I think only one bank of injectors is working correctly. My injectors are out of a junkyard 3.1 Chevy Lumina, High z - 12ohms. I did a datalog and am seeing differing pw and duty cycles for bank 1 and 2. I wired the injectors for one bank on right side and one bank on left. Only two of my four headers are hot which confirmed I only have 2 cylinders. I also know that all 4 plugs are firing, pulled the right 2 with motor running, now quite obvious the right side is not affecting running. I know all 4 injectors are opening at prime pw as I opened the intake to watch pulse. SO action, I was thinking to put injectors into test mode, pull all but one connector(so its not squirting fuel everywhere). Hold a cup under my runner to collect sample and measure with a graduated cylinder how much fuel I get out of each injector. Is it safe to disconnect all but one injector? Are different pw and duty cycles normal for 2 bank system? I do know that I checked my junkyard injectors with an ohm meter when i obtained them and they were within half an ohm of eachother. This doesn't mean they arent plugged unfortuanately.

thanks
JE

ok after some more reading it looks like the duty cycle 2 and pw 2 are for 2 maps which is not my case so you can ignore that part of my post. my bad.
