IAC and starting

My IAC is on a Chrysler TB and almost works corectly. The engine starts cold fine and warms up with the faster idle. The issue is I have to turn the engine off and restart for the Idle to come down where it should be. As long as the engine is warm, it idles fine. Cold engine, idle stays high. During this process I found that the engine will not restart while going down the road in gear. I have to shove in the clutch and use the starter, then it starts instantly. I have never had a FI engine with a manual trans before and find this strange. If the IAC would work right I probably never would have found the starting issue. Anybody have an answer for the IAC and idle? The restarting is just strange. Thanks

Most vehicles with standard transmissions require the clutch be depressed to start. Prevents starting in gear...also make push/overrun starts impossible.

The clutch & neutral safety switches are there to prevent you from turning the starter over while in gear with the clutch out - lurch bump crunch... I HAVE bump-started newer standard-trans vehicles; if the starter relay is what's being locked-out, it won't affect the rest of the engine.

I can't see the safety switches blocking the ignition or fuel pump, since that won't affect the lurch of the vehicle.

Thanks for the replys. This is on a 1971 VW Karmann Ghia, so safety latches and such were never part of the car. I guess the designers felt that anyone driving a stick new how to operate it correctly? I spent many years push and coasting starting all kinds of vehicles. I just wonderd if the MS and EDIS was the reason it won't start with out using the starter? It wouldn't matter if the IAC would slow down the idle without restarting!
