VE Analyze Live going leaner than Target AFR

For discussing Phil Tobin's TunerStudio MS is the MegaSquirt edition of TunerStudio, a next generation tuning application. It provides the ability to configure and tune all MegaSquirt controllers and is 100% compatible with MegaTune ini files and msq's.

VE Analyze Live going leaner than Target AFR

Post by Rob C »

I am using TunerStudio's VE Analyze Live! tool to get a good tune for my car. I love the idea of seeing the adjustments live. The problem I'm having is that it is leaning out my table too far. I see where I can set the target AFR depending on the location on the table. I was happy with the default values and left them as is. The problem is that VE Analyze Live is taking the values down to where I'm around 16.5 AFR.... A litte too lean for my liking. :( Any idea what's wrong? I'm sure I just have a setting wrong somewhere, I just don't know where.

Are you narrow band or WB?

Can you post a log of it running and msq?

I'm using WB (AEM Air/Fuel UEGO Gauge Kit 30-4100)

I can certainly get a datalog and the msq. I'm at work now but I can try to get the msq and a datalog at lunch time. I haven't even looked yet, is there a datalog function in TunerStudio or just get one from Megatune? Any special conditions to create in the datalog?

Yes, TS datalogs.
Try to take one while it is warmed up and you are driving.
Ideally an msq before running VE Analyze,
then datalog while VE Analyze is running with Update controller NOT checked
then Apply changes and save another "After.msq"

Send all 3.

Here are the files. I hope the datalog isn't too long. I thought it would be better to get too much than too little. Thanks again for your help!

There seems to be something up on the settings or TS's MS1 base code configuration.
Looking at it, it should not be leaning the whole table. A few spots, but more richening than leaning.

I still want to look in to the MS1 base code configuration a bit more.

Thanks for looking at the info. I don't know if it will help but I did a datalog on the way home, then took it to Megalog viewer and used the VE Analyzer in there to modify the table. I have yet to run the revised table, but it did not lower the values in the table as low as TS did with the VE Analyze Live. It was a 40min datalog so there was a decent bit of data in there. I look forward to what you can find because I really live the idea behind the VE Analyze Live and I've read great things! Thanks again!

I had the same problem, found out I set MegaTune for my wideband sensor but set TunerStudio for the wrong one. Compare the AFR table in
TS on what you set in MT, if there different you have problems.

That is a good suggestion. In MegaLogVIewer I'm using AEM Linear for the WideBand Setting. In TunerStudio, I'm using AEM UEGO Controller AEM-30-230x. Since there was UEGO in the name, I ASSUMED this was the proper one. Possibly AEM Gauge AEM-30-42xx would be a better option? Or Wideband but none of the above?

Again, I'm using AEM UEGO 30-4100.

Ahh... That would do it.

Most AEM's are the Linear "AEM Gauge AEM-30-42xx"

I think I will include the Linear in the label. The non-linear is usually from many years ago.

We have a winner! I changed my project to use the AEM Gauge AEM-30-42xx. I used VE Analyze Live all the way to work this moring (~25miles) and it worked much better! Dialing in on the AFR targets just as it should! This is going to help me get a much better tune. Thanks so much Phil!
