What type of sensor in mid 70's Ford Duraspark 2?

From what I can tell it is a variable reluctor, but I have read some things saying Hall "effect" sensor.

I'm trying to decide which circuits to build.

If it is a reluctor I will build the variable reluctor circuit and the neg. side of the coil circuit and could choose which with jumpers.

Inside the distributor is a mangnetic pickup and an eight legged wheel.

Can someone give me a definitive answer?

Thanks,

Josh

If you disconnect the dizzy wiring and connect a DVM set to millivolts AC across the sensor and spin the dizzy you should see an output if it is a VR sensor. Hall effect require external power to work.

Durasparks are VR - the Hall effect sensors didn't show up until the TFI distributors.
