Windows xp laptop use with new TunerStudioMS 1.0....

For discussing Phil Tobin's TunerStudio MS is the MegaSquirt edition of TunerStudio, a next generation tuning application. It provides the ability to configure and tune all MegaSquirt controllers and is 100% compatible with MegaTune ini files and msq's.

Windows xp laptop use with new TunerStudioMS 1.0....

Post by 1950ChevySuburban »

Hey there! Been successfully driving our MSII '50 Suburban for over a year now, and feel I should have a better tune with the new TSMS1.0 I have a couple of concerns though, can I import my data files to this from MegaTune?
Also, I plan to get a newer laptop and probably get stuck with either Windows Vista or 7. Will that still work? I believe I was told to stay with XP for MegaTune. I was also told to make sure to retain a serial port connection, not go USB.

I'm learning as I go............ Thanks!

My laptop runs Win7 home and I have a USB to serial adaptor lead. TS works just fine. Haven't used Megatune after the first couple of months.

Modern laptops with a serial port tend to be costly, as they're for specialised use. When I last looked, about 2-3 times the price of a similar spec ordinary one.

Like trakkies said, it real serial ports are rare these days, most users are running usb-serial converters. I recommend sticking with one based on the FTDI chipset like the one DIY sells.

No Worries on the import of MegaTune stuff, TS does support the MegaTune msq files. Once saved from TS, there is some additional information saved in it as well to support being able to just double click an msq downloaded from the internet, but the core tune information is still saved with the same format used by MegaTune.

The easiest way to import the tune is by just connecting to the Controller, then TS will read all the settings directly from there and there is the least chance for error with different project settings or something.

Great, thanks! As much as I liked XP, it's good to know that Win7 will work.
