No Communication

I have not been able to get communication between the MSII V3 and my laptop (Windows 7 USB with adapter) or desktop (XP with serial port). Jumper is off. Our EE buddy who built the board added the missing jumpers, got connection and loaded .S19 program.
I loaded and ran the Hypertherm program and it types everything I write. I also types everything I write with the jumper removed. This doesn't seem right. What am I missing?

Any chance you're on the wrong COM port?
Could you post a screen shot of what happens when you run Port Check?

Matt, I'm pretty sure the Port (Comm 3) is not the problem. I Uninstalled Downloader and Megatune from my computer and reinstalled. When I right click the .ini file and save target as, and try to save it to my car1 file I get megasquirt-II_2892.txt couldn't be downloaded.
I downloaded it to my desktop and then copied it to car1 file but it says partial. I added .ini but no help. I have the same issue with settings.
I then tried to use the Downloader install but is says nothing connected and I cannot install. Should I may try disabling my firewall virus software?
I feel I am missing something basic but cannot seem to get anywhere with this.

The Port Check program doesn't just check the ports on the PC, it checks the ECU's response. Please connect the MS to your computer, power up the MS, and run Port Check. Then post a screen shot of your results.

MegaSquirt Download 2.00
Opened comm port 3 at 115200.
Reading signature:
Signature: "s"
When I try on Megatune I get
Port COM3
Interval 50
Data Rate 115200
Verify ECU Communication No Response!

A signature of "S" is a sign that either the MS has a short causing it to loop back every character sent to it, or that COM3 is a fake diagnostic port that echoes back every character sent to it. Are you using a USB adapter or a built in serial port?

The above is with my laptop, USB and Windows 7. I cannot communicate with Downloader or Megatune.
I have a desktop with XP and a serial port and get this message while trying to communicate with Download (boot jumper on for Download):
Reading C:/Program Files/MegaSquirt/Firmware/MS-II/Monitor_v2.33.abs.s19:
Detected MS-II (HCS12) code.
Entry point: 0x0000
Code range : 0x4000-0x3cafc0
File read successfully.
Opened comm port 2 at 115200.
ERROR: Unknown error status response, e=0x53 Elapsed time: 0.32 seconds
Also, in the Device Manager it says COM1, but that gives no response, COM2 does.
Another issue is I get an error messabe when I try to download the .INI file to Car1. I disabled the firewall but still cannot download it.

If the COM port doesn't show up in the Device Manager, don't use it.
What happens when you try loading firmware with COM1?

I will try again tonight on the XP computer with COM1.
My friend, an experienced EE, built the board and succesfully loaded the Firmware (Monitor_v2.892abs.s19 with no issue on his XP laptop with serial port.
Any ideas on what I can try on my Win 7, USB Laptop. That is the one I will be using for tuning the motor so eventually I will need to get it to work. I may need to bus a Serial Port adapter.

If the firmware loaded successfully, we don't have to worry about that.
Please post a screen shot of the complete message you get when you run Port Check on your laptop. I need all the wording it shows.

OK, after playing with the USB/Serial Port driver I got success on the communication. Thought I was home free. Put matching .ini file in CAR1 and opened configurator to activate, but after highlighting the INI file Activate is greyed out so I cannot activate.

Try TunerStudio instead - it selects the INIs automatically, no Configurator to worry about.

I looked at that yesterday and will go that way. I will remove all programs loaded first. I did not see the order, do I load the program, then power up the MSII with the stimulator? How about the boot jumper, It needs to load the .S19 program first? Thanks for your patience.

You just said the S19 had been loaded successfully. But you power up the MS2 with the boot jumper on, then load firmware to it.

Yes, The latest version of the Firmware has been installed. So I assume that I need the Boot Jumper off and after loading TunerStudio I would Power up the MS 2 and it will detect the .S19 file and load the correct .INI file? Is that the correct order or should the MS 2 be powered up when the program is loaded?

The MS2 needs to be powered up when you're creating the project in Tuner Studio.

OK, real close but still issues.
Tried to open MegaTune, got:
ERROR:megatune.ini:0051-The included file "custom.ini" could not be opened.
MegaTune Terminating
Tried to open TunerStudio and got:
Unable to access jarfile TunerStudioMSLite!.Jar
Tried again and got it to open, Started new project and searched and found MS but got message:
The correct configuration file for:
MSII Rev 2.89200
was not found locally.
Would you like to look for it at EFIAnalytics.com?
I said yes and it says server not found.
I believe 2.890.INI is loaded and doesn't match the 2.892.S19 in the Megasquirt has. I tried to download the correct .INI file to car1 but it didn't help. Where exactly does the .INI file have to be for TunerStudio to find and use it??
While computers are not my strong point I can usually follow instructions and have used Megasquirts before without issue, this is just beating me up!

Next time, say no, don't go to EFIAnalytics.com to look for it. It will ask you to find the INI file on your hard drive and you can go and tell TunerStudio where it is.
