More component substitutions (UK)

Hi everyone.

I'm trying to get a parts list together on RS electronics for a complete megasquirt v3 board. Unfortunately some parts are not available. The parts in question are:

Q16 - VB921 Coil Driver
U4 - IXDI404PI FET Driver
L1,L2 - 70F106AI-RC Choke
Q22,Q23 - ZTX553 Transistor

I have read the forums and found that the FET driver U4 can be replaced with an MC34151P, so long as D21 is changed from a 36V zener to an 18V type, this is the route I am going to take.
I have found a replacement inductor, http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... 0&x=40&y=8 . I think this will work fine, but a confirmation would be great.
Could Q22 and Q23 be replaced with this part, http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... &x=13&y=20 ?
Aas for the coil driver, I know the BIP373 is a better replacement but I cannot find that either. Would this work... http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/sear ... 64&x=9&y=4

Thanks in advance for your help,

Dan

Have you tried Digi-Key? The MS site lists part numbers from them. They have a UK website and deliver to the UK just about as quickly as RS, even although most things seem to come from the US. ;-)

Just to add that RS are a fine company - but pretty expensive for the small trader. CPC or Rapid are my first choice for the common stuff.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried digikey but the cost of parts actually worked out to be more expensive than RS's did! Also, the BIP373 wasnt available from there. Ill have a look for the other parts on the other website you've mentioned though!

edit
Just had a check, no joy. Hopefully the parts i've chosen will be ok?

The only people on the planet that I know of who sell BIP373 at the retail level are DIYAutoTune. The ISL9V5036P3 will work; just bear in mind it has no amp-clamp or thermal shutdown protection. Make sure your dwell isn't too badly off...

Unfortunately, it's the only known component on the market in a TO-220 package with all those features - an ignition driver with both overcurrent protection and thermal shutdown. If there had been a more common component out there with these features, we would have used it - you won't believe how difficult it was to talk Bosch into selling those things to us.

The only other driver I've seen that has these features is the VB325SP. The problem here is a) it's an 8-pin SMT, not a 3-pin TO-220, and b) it needs a 5v feed to operate. Available through Future Electronics, it's a few bucks cheaper than the BIP373 through Matt and the gang, but the fact that it isn't drop-in compatible means that any mods or adaptations would quickly eat any savings and more.

Just get the BIP from DIY - even with shipping, it'll be a worthwhile investment if you never ever have to replace a burned ignition driver!

I see, what a pain! How much would you sell the BIP373s for on their own, to a reseller Matt? Do you think the other substitutions I have made will be OK?

Thanks for everyones time

BIPs on their own are $6.80 retail.
