RPM jumps 0-8000 -why?

Hello, I just got to putting together my MS II the past couple days. Everything seems to have been going fine until now. I installed the firmware (Monitor_v2.905.abs.s19) onto the chip, it said successfully. Since it said Megatune would not work with this code (and i would prefer to be using Tunerstudio in the end) i was attempting to run the test at step 55 on Tunerstudio. Before doing this i wired it up with the Hall/optical sensor jumpers in step 52 and had skipped step 51...I will be running an Mallory Hyfire 6AL and Mallory unilite on the car.
Tunerstudios recognizes that the MS II is plugged in, but the RPM jumps from 0 to 8000. the MAP sensor seems to be working fine, and if i unplug the power, move the O2 pot, and plug it back in the WBO2 changes as outlined in step 55.
The other odd issue i have is that none of the Megastim 2.21 LED's are lighting.
Everything seems to be soldered fine, i dont know where the issue could be. I am using a usb-to-db9 cable from radio shack; I would assume that if its connecting at the level it is that it is not the issue. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong forum, but my issues seem to be in a couple catagories depending on who the culprit is...Thanks for any help!

This doesn't sounds like a comm problem, more likely a configuration problem.
I take it is is running on a Stim?
Posting and msq would help.
The MS-II and V2.2/V3 Main Board Assembly, Testing, and Troubleshooting would probably be the best fit for this topic.

Thanks for the quick reply, i guess thats where this should go then. I dont have an msq i dont think...im still assembling the board/stuck on step 55. Im slowly learning all of the things needed to be done on the computer, i havnt looked into the tuning portion too much yet..

You might want to check the
red text in the
blue box here:

Thanks, ive been reading that, and that is the .s19 that i loaded onto my MS II, i am trying brows around to find: the 'CAN devices/Device configuration file' so i can put megasquirt-II_2905.ini file into it like the blue box says. I guess thats the step i may have overlooked, ill try to figure it out on the computer side and see what that does.

Try setting the 'ECU Type' as it says in the red text.

...I dont know why i didnt think about changing the Tunerstudios ECU type (text in red)..thats helped a lot. I now get a response from the CLT, IAT, and TPS. The LED's on my Stim still dont light up though, and they are not put in backwards...The RPM is not fluctuating, and does not respond to the pot, it is just sitting at zero, i assume thats because i skipped 51 and have it wired for Hall/Optical sensor, is this the case? Thanks everyone for the fast responses and great help so far!

You should get RPM with it wired for Hall / optical input, but the lack of RPM would explain the lack of LED activity.

Thanks for the response...I started reading the troubleshooting section and realized i accidentally jumpered TACHSELECT to VRIN instead of OPTOIN, so that is fixed now...
This still doesnt explain why the LED's on my stim are not working- "If you have no rpm, it may be because the stimulator may not have the voltage to 'overpower' the D2 diode, which must be 'jumpered' to test MegaSquirt® on the stimulator." could this be the reason? ...I took out the D2 on the stimulator just in case; I am using a radio shack 12V plug that puts out 12.22v, 800mA...
I am in the middle of step 65 now, but I'm going to try and see if I have rpm now.
