I know this has probably been beaten to death but how suseptible is the ECU under the hood (bonnet?) I'm injecting a Triumph TR6 and the only place I think there is room is in the trunk (boot.) Having to run the cable and MAP line from the ECU to the relay board all the way back sounds like a real pain. Plus the relay cable only comes in a 4 foot length and I think after all the bends and turns I'm going to need about 10 feet of cable.

I would certainly not mount one in the engine compartment!

One common place is the passenger's side foot well. Because cars are usually made to be LHD/RHD, there is plenty space there as there are no pedals. Make up a false bulkhead, or adapt one from another car. The Rover SD1 uses this arrangement on the injected versions.

Thanks guys, I got my ECU yesterday delivered at work. DYI only offers a 4' FINISHED relay cable and since I'm trying to get this done as quickly as possible I really wanted a complete cable. But I bought the 8' cable anyway thinking 8' of anything should be long enough in a TR but when I got it in my hands I realized that it wasn't going to do, at least where I planed to put it. So with the prospect of the hassle and expense of having to return the cable for a longer one or the out right expense buying a new one I started thinking of alternative mounting positions. When I got home last night and checked in the passenger foot well I was amazed at the room under there. I've had a TR6 of one year or another for 30 years and never look there with that perspective. It makes sense though with the left hand/right hand configuration that that is where the foot peddle box would go for countries that drive on the wrong side of the road. If I thought of that position in the first place I would have bought the 4' cable.


BTW, that relay board assembly sure is well, not attractive. Too bad it wasn't built in an enclosure like the ECU. I may have to address that some time down the road.

There is an enormous variety of boxes available ready made. Often called enclosures for electronics. Measure up the relay board and enter the dimensions to an Ebay search. You might even find one of the same basic design as the MS one - I doubt it is specially made.

BTW, as well as space for the pedal box on the passenger side, you might also find a hole for the steering column, blanked off in some way. Ideal route for the loom through the bulkhead...

For my relay board I bought a cover from DIY and cut 3 square holes in it for the relays to fit through. Not perfect but better, and keeps the big chunks off the board. Billk
