All of a sudden my timing stopped reacting to the maps tuned into my MSQ. The timing is stuck at about 0 deg and will not budge if I rev it, change the trigger wizard, or tweak the timing maps. The car ran perfectly for over four years. What could be wrong? It runs, but poorly at a fixed timing of 0 TDC, which is about where I mounted the VR sensor on the trigger wheel (limp mode). What would cause limp mode? I already swapped in a new EDIS6 unit with no change. I reloaded my current MSQ, and an older one, with no change. Could firmware cause this? The gauges in TunerStudio show that MS is still trying to send timing signals, but my timing light mark is stuck at 0 TDC?

MSII v2.687 running 36-1 wheel and EDIS-6.

Sounds like you've lost SAW. MS won't inject without PIP, so that must be present. Have you checked the basics like the wiring? A wire might have come off inside the DB37 connector. A jumper inside MS.

I plan on pulling the connectors and scoping the wire paths. I will have to check out the jumpers inside too. It has been a while since I soldered those. I will focus on the SAW wire. Thanks.

Wire paths are all perfect from connector to connector. I opened up the box and my jumpers are all good. No obvious physical anomalies on the boards. I will reconnect when the rain stops and see if it was just a freak, loose, or intermittent connection in the connectors.

If you have a 'scope, have you checked SAW is present at the EDIS controller?

No I don't have a scope but I have a brand new spare EDIS-6 unit that I swapped in, and it made no difference. Are there any external factors that might cause SAW to drop out? Low battery voltage, dirty VR signal? Bacause the car runs, injects and sparks fine, even the tach is correct, and that's directly connected to the EDIS-6 output. It just won't advance the timing at all due to a missing SAW signal from MSII I suppose.

If the rain ends soon, I'll go put it all back together and see what happens. It could have been just a flaky connection on the DB37.

I put it back together and it still didn't advance timing. So i scratched my head for a second while the car idled poorly at 0 TDC. I decided to grab the harness in various place and flex it around while the car was running. When I flexed the harness near the EDIS unit, the idle jumped up! Woohoo, it turned out to be an intermittent/bad solder joint in the shielded pair, where I soldered on the EDIS plug.
