need help testing, weird problem

I built a megasquirt II version 3.0 entirely without testing it, (I know, bad Idea) I then had second thoughts and bought a megastim V2.21 and started to go through the testing. Power supply tested good. Serial communication was fine. I was able to download and apply the firmware v2.9050 i believe. I downloaded tuner studio, Set the ECU, and I seemed to be up and running. TPS,IAT, and CLT were all responding fine, but o2 and RPM were not. I read in the trouble shooting section that u can move the pot for the O2 and then power cycle the stim and you should see the change on the dashboard, Which i did see. but when I reconnected the battery I had 2 led's flashing on the stim, I2 + I1 and PMP was on solid. The led closest to the DB9 was also flashing. these would keep flashing for about 20 seconds and then all would go out. and now nothing responds when you move any of the pots on the stim. I have been going through the trouble shooting and can't seem to find any issues. The only thing I haven't done yet is to clean the flux off the board. I have been looking at this thing for hours. I maybe should have mentioned, I set the megasquirt up to only control fuel, and to be triggered off the coil. Any help is muchly appreciated.

This is an obvious enough problem that you should deal with it right away. Even if it's not your current problem (which it certainly could be), it could certainly turn into your future problem if not addressed immediately.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ill wash the board at work tonight, Ill post what I find when I am able to test it again.

Cleaned the board last night. Tried testing it just now and still get the same thing. While putting the processor back in I broke pin #18 on the processor. it looks like this pin isn't used but I am probably wrong. will I need a new card or can I pull the broken pin through and solder a new one in? I am still at a loss as far as testing goes. tuner studio sees all the changes except RPM when you turn the pots and then power cycle it. any help is muchly appreciated

You may solder a new pin in place.
How is the RPM input circuit set up?

set up to run off the coil only, I double checked all the components again last night for the rpm circuit and all seemed fine. all the jumpers in place, zener diode in D2 location with band opposite the orientation on the board with a jumper on it.

You'll need to put a jumper across D2 to get a signal that way.

Although my point here is moot because of the jumper across D2, I would point out that D2
should not be a zener, but should in fact be a
1n4001 or equivalent.

I thought I read in the instuctions that if triggering off the coil, it called for a zener diode. and yes, I do have a temporary jumper on that location.

Perhaps I missed that one....

If you're looking for what is touted as a VERY good coil-negative filter, take a look here -

thx for the link, when I first tried testing everything, all inputs worked besides O2 and RPM, I figured not to big of a deal though, I noticed after that I had forgot to place a jumper on D2. but it was already to late, all the inputs stopped working. Now, the inputs for CLT, IAT, TPS, and O2 see the changes in Tuner studio when I move the pots on the stim and then power cycle it, but I am unable to see the changes as I move the pots while the power stays on.

if any one has any ideas feel free to throw them out here as I am at a loss and would like to get this thing going lol. could this be a firmware issue?

is there any other info from me that you guys need to help me figure this issue out?

First, I'd try reloading the firmware and see what results that gets you.

thought i would dust this off. as I had to send my laptop back for warranty. I just re loaded the firmware and went with a new tune and everything seems to be working on the stim so far. I am concerned about the o2 input though. wheni have tuner studio open and move the pot for the o2 it doesnt move smothly, it will just suddenly jump from 12.10 to 17 and change, if i find the spot where it will just start to move on the dash while i move the pot i can just barely move it and see it change accordingly. it only seems to see an input from the pot in just a tiny part of travel. if that makes sense. Just wondering if that is normall. thanks for all the help it is greatly appreciated.

My first guess would be that the wb calibration is set to 'narrow band'. Calibrate it too the kind of wb that you will be using and give that a try.

I tried all the different settings And came up with the same results. I do have a pro sport wide band in the vehicle that I plan to use with The megasquirt so in settings I figured that the lc1 0-5 volts would be the correct setting.

Also noticed that the ig led on The stim never lights up. Is this because I am only triggering off The negative of The coil and not actually using megasquirt to control ignition? or is this another issue that needs to be sorted out

If you've followed the manual for fuel only, there will be no link to the 'ign' output on the DB37. If you intend controlling ignition later on it's worth connecting this now so it can be checked. It won't matter if there's no connection beyond it when you install MS.
