MSII V3 board died after first testing

Post by 684spdsignet »

MSII V3 board
hall effect
IGBT with s12 connected to igbtout/ign jumper through a 1000 ohm resister for running an msd box per step 65
both flyback circuits installed
installed current limit circuit for driver FET protection
IAC
DLP usb internal usb adapter
megastim 2.2 with plug in adapter

I assembed my board cleaned it and had it running with 2.905 code uploaded . I didnt have a tach signal going to the megastim at this point ,I assumed it was because of my setup with the resiser added . I fiddled with the tunning software for a couple of days just kind of messing around and exploring . On about the third day I plugged up my Megastim and usb cable all the lights flashed on the stim and then nothing , no connection no lights nothing . The lights do flash everytime I plug in the stim but thats it . Also went back through doing the basic checks in the assembly guide and found out I no longer have power to pin 31 or ground to pin 32 on my cpu socket. Any ideas about what went wrong whats bad?

I'd first check the solder joints on the CPU socket if you've lost ground. Try reflowing the solder joints and clean any stray flux off the board.

Ya the first thing i did was reflow the two joints , didnt seem to help . Are those two pins on a seperate circuit or do they share a common source with the other grounds and and +5 volt pins on the cpu socket? The only thing I did between the board working and not working is coat the back with a silicone conformal coating. Im starting to think I might of done something to the board when i coated it.

All CPU grounds are on the same ground plane; there are no ground traces.
