Problem with new megasuirt assembly/build

Hi. I have a problem during build/test of my megasquirt II

V3.0 board and Megasquirt II processor built from official kit. Firmware is current (2.905)
Using a computer with a real serial port.
Stimulator V2
9v battery and/or laboratory power supply set for 9v. This is a very clean and stable supply.

The issue is that tunerstudio won't connect. If I create a new project and detect my megaquirt tunerstudio finds the megasquirt on port com1 but reports that the firmware is not loaded.

If I jumper the 2 boot pins on the cpu daughter card, I can load and re-load the firmware without any errors. I can also verify the firmware. Then I pull the power, remove the jumper, power up the megasquirt again and try to hit it from tunerstudio and it still reports no firmware loaded.

I am using the detect button in tunerstudio

I have downloaded the 2.905 ini file and reloaded it, no luck

The mini console in tunerstudio responds to everything I type with a funy a character with an umlaut abd the > sign.

Is my cpu fried? It seems to me like it's stuck in boot load mode. I can reload the firmware even with the jumper removed.

Any help much appreciated. I have been through the serial connection troubleshooting in the manual many times. If I pull the cpu card and jumper 12 and 13 I get a loopback, which I would expect considering that the firmware loads OK.

If the code loads, then both the serial comms and CPU are working.

Perhaps the bootloader jumper isn't removed to connect, or maybe the comm port is incorrectly set, or something like that. You might try the portCheck.exe utility, from the 'Files' link on the manual table of contents, to see what it reports.

Port Check finds the megasquirt on Com1 and reports:

COM1 Opened
115200 baud
*** V2.90 Embedded Code by B&G ***

Now when I connect tunerstudio that works too. I don't know, I havn't done anything that would have fixed it, but you have added a test tool to my arsenal.

Thanks

I'm glad it is working now!

Hey, sorry for the repeated problems but this isn't going easy for some reason and I'm trying my best to troubleshhot on my own.

Problem is I don't have any RPM indication in tunerstudio. I jumpered for opto/hall input

The megastim I borrowed is working correctly, I can see the pulses on pin 24 of the db37 with my scope. I can follow the pulses through R12 to the opto isolator, and through the jumper to pin 14 of the processor IRQ1

At max rpm the pulses from the stim are 132Hz on my counter and a good negative going pulse on my scope at pin 14 of the cpu (5v on this pin with a pulse down to 0v every time the rpm from the stim triggers), but still nothing on the rpm gauge. If I turn rpm down on the stim and turn the knob clockwise quickly I get a blip of about 220 rpm on the tunerstudio rpm gauge, and the other gauges that depend on rpm kick into life for a moment, but the rpm gauge very quickly drops back to zero.

Megasquirt 2 running B&G firmware 2.905 on borrowed stim v2.0

Mark,

A datalog of the behavior you describe and and MSQ file of your settings would help troubleshoot this issue.
