Hello all. New here so apologies if these questions have been covered elsewhere...have been reading as much as I can, but still got a couple of questions to go...

m looking to replace my current lucus 14cux with megasquirt sequential fuel and cop injection. So I'll end up losing the dizzy and adding a crank and cam wheel and sensors. Will keep the existing throttle pot and other sensors for day one to keep it simple and make sure I've not broken anything in the mean time (engine is being stripped and rebuilt with more radical cam etc). So my initial set up should also include the bypass stepper motor.

Question 1. How d I control the carbon canister...I beleive there's a valve to open/close it...
Question 2. Do the texisting emperature sensors also provide the feed for the dash instruments, or do I need to double these up?.

I'm looking to rewire all the engine loom as the current one is.such an unwieldy mess!.

Thanks, Virgill.

First, I don't think you can use COP on a Rover V8 as they would get too hot from the exhaust manifold. Best to use the coil packs as fitted to later Range Rovers - or EDIS, which is cheap and very reliable. Fitting kits for EDIS are readily available for this engine in the UK.

There are two coolant temperature sensors. The one beside the thermostat only does the dash gauge - the EFI has its own two wire one.

Can't help with the carbon cannister - my RV8 doesn't have one.

When you pull the loom out .. you will disconnect two connectors behind the stereo .. one brown and one sort of white / opaque. The brown one contains the power feeds into the loom and ecu, the fuel pump output power and the starter solenoid wire, so you will need to connect into those with your new loom. The white / opaque is the dash connector and takes loads of wires (most of which you are unlikely to re-use) including coolant temp to gauge, alternator light, oil light, oil pressure (if fitted) and tacho to the rev counter. These are all bound into the injection loom ... so when you remove the 14cux loom they will need replacing ... but they are just single wires .. so easy ... the coolant temp to dash does, as the previous poster said, go to the spade connector (single wire) on the front of the inlet manifold, by the thermostat housing.
The carbon canister can be activated I believe, but you will need an output adding to your megasquirt ... i would ask the builder .. normally just a solenoid switch but I am not sure of the current rating .. so they may have to add a tip122 transistor ... but just ask ... they will know.
