Testing Old V3 Main Board

Hello,

I was given a three year old assembled V3 main board which was working correctly three years ago. I connected the board to my computer via a DB9 cable but TunerStudio will no recognize it at all. Are there specific tests I can run to make sure my V3 main board and stimulator are still working properly?

Thanks,
Sam

I'd try a port check first. To do this check, you'll need the program portcheck.exe, which comes with most MegaTune versions, including the one on the DIYAutoTune.com website. You'll find it in the MegaTune2.25 folder. If you don't have a copy, download it here:

http://www.DIYAutoTune.com/downloads/tu ... tCheck.zip

Power up the Megasquirt and connect it to your PC. You do not need to open the case and should not put the boot jumper in place for this test. Close MegaTune if it's running, and run the portcheck.exe program. When this program starts, it will scan the available COM ports.

If the port it's scanning is not connected to a working Megasquirt, or it's on the wrong speed, it'll say "No connection made." If it's on the right port and right speed, it will give you the version of the Megasquirt firmware that's on the Megasquirt. Note that some Megasquirt firmware versions will look like earlier versions with this test - for example, 029V identifies it as 029Q. This is for backwards compatibility.

If you get a port where it replies with "S" or something else that doesn't look like a firmware version, this port is probably a fake COM port that echos back everything that's typed.

When I open the COM check program I get the message "Bowling and Grippo v. 2.xxx or 3.000" for COM 1 at 9600 baud.

I tried checking the circuit board by jumping pin 12 to pin 13 on the 40-pin processor socket [near R44], using a snipped-off component lead and checking for a loop back with hyperterminal but get no response.

I downloaded Megatune and tried to open megatune but got the error message:

Controller code version does not match signature in MegaSquirt-I.ini

Expected "0x14" (found in ini file)
Received "0x51" (from controller)

Table corruption may occur, this is usually a very serious problem.

I received this same error message with Megasquirt-I connected and disconnected.

I just wanted to add that the MegaSquirt I just successfully connected to my computer using MegaTune but I am still receiving the error message right when I open MegaTune:

Controller code version does not match signature in MegaSquirt-I.ini

Expected "0x14" (found in ini file)
Received "0x51" (from controller)

Table corruption may occur, this is usually a very serious problem.

It sounds like MegaTune is on the wrong COM port. But I'd recommend switching to TunerStudio; it is a lot easier to get that communicating.

There is no longer an error message with Megatune but I would like to used tunerstudio MS which I have already bought. How do I get tunerstudio to communicate? When I open tunerstudio with the megasquirt 1 connected I cannt open the settings under communications.

What happens when you try to detect firmware when you make a new project?

I worked on this all of yesterday and found that I had not set up the project correctly. Now TunerstudioMS is working great. Hopefully I don't run into any more major problems. Thanks for all the help

I got a large error message today which caused my tunerstudio project not to run. It reads:

A problem was encountered loading this project.
Reported Error:
A critical Error was encountered in this projects ini file.
The following message was provided:
"MSnS does not support MAF"

Any ideas on how to fix this error?

Can you send us a copy of the tune file?

Hello,

I changes the fueling algorithm to speed density fueling algorithm and the EGO O2 sensor to Narrowband in a new project and now the system is working. I have asked this in another section of this forum but I will ask here also. I want to run an injector with a 8.7-9.1 ohms coil resistance. Can I run this injector without using resistors in series to decrease the current flow from my v3 main board? I am not quite sure how to calculate the amount of current an injector requires/can withstand. I have bought

Sam

That should be something you can treat as a high impedance injector.
