I'm putting megasquirt in my race car, and i'm not supposed to mess with the TPS. so what i need is a potentiometer of some sort to act as a 0-5v tps that will fit in my stock tps body. i just don't know what parameters this unit has to have for it to work with the megasquirt. using one from another car is tricky because they're often too big to fit in my housing and they also have other functions in many cases, as i understand it. any recomendations on this would be great. i've considered this one:

but i'm not really sure if that will work. it's intended for audio use.

also, to answer the questions before they come, i can't use the stock tps because it's not linear. it's just an on/off switch.

I don't know that I'd want to rely on something that lightweight. If you can't play with the TPS on the throttle body, can you install a TPS on the pedal itself?

You might consider some of these:
ALPS sensors (need housings)
BEI Sensors
Cherry Sensor
Vishay Sensors

Except for the ALPS units, these are all heavy-duty "industrial" sensors that should fare muchbetter in a race environment.

And audio one is unlikely to have a long enough life, as it is not continually moving on an amplifier.

This is one commonly used as a replacement for NLA Rover V8 types.

Thanks guys. I agree about the audi sensor not being appropriate. The rover sensor seems to lack availability? Can't find it on any other sites. And no, mounting on the pedal is a no go. Too easy to find. I'm not even zupposed to modify the stock sensor but my goal is to find something that will completely hide inside of its stock housong. Acura sensors are pretty good and available, but i'm afraid they're too big. Small amd simple is key here!

Check out some of the motorcycle TPS's. They have some really small ones.
A word of advice if you research the motorcycle ones. Shop around between the various brands and models. There is quite a price swing between them.
If you find one that fits your size requirement, I'm sure a search on the internet would get you the specs.
They even had them on some of the carbed models.

If a TPS is not legal for your racing class, why expend the effort of trying to hide the sensor, taking the chance of getting caught anyway? I have read any number of threads from users who do not use TPS sensors in their installations and handle AE etc. using MAP. Using the right setup, TPS is not essential IMO.

The 'Rover' one is made by Vishay who also now do solid state analogue ones - but I've no actual experience of them. Thought RS Components had a US presence? Although if it's like the Digikey UK one, no bargains to be had.

MAP isn't legal either. the other option is to run the AFM signal and treat it like the TPS. not difficult, but doesn't promote such great throttle response. i'll probably set it up like that initially. and i don't think i'll actually race with the funky cheated TPS. i kind of just want to do it to see how it works and maybe use it on the street. still needs to be hidden in the OEM TPS case to avoid questions.

haha yeah it's kind of weird. you can use stand alone inside the stock ECU box, but all sensors have to remain "un modified", and you can't use any aditional sensors, other than a wideband. the stock tps sucks so it won't work for megasquirt. the struggle.

I replaced the throttle switch on my 93 1.8L mx5 with a throttle position sensor from a Subaru liberty rs turbo, they are almost a direct replacement for the mx5 switch, only modification being I had to tap two threads into the side of the throttle body, if that helps
