Miata CAS

Ready to install the Megasquirt I built several years ago in my 1990 Mazda Miata 1.6. Noticed on a Miata forum that the CAS can fail and replacement can cost $200-$400. I got hold of a failed CAS, took it apart and, I think, could install a Pertronix unit in the CAS housing. I found a Pertronix unit for a 4 cylinder on e-Bay for $55 that looks like it could be adapted. Major problem is attaching the rotor to the CAS center shaft but I have access to a full machine shop. Can't seem to find out if the Pertronix unit is VR or Hall. Using an EDIS wheel on the crank pully is not an option due to the unreliability of the pully key. First question is do I need to find some way of telling the ECU where TDC is? If I do need to have a TDC signal, any idea where I could get it from?

I have a MS-II V3 main board. After giving it much thought I mentioned the crank pully keyway as being weak but the crank turns the timing belt which turns the cams so I'm right back to square one. I do have an EDIS wheel that I was going to install on an LT-1 engine but the street rod has been sold. Another weak point is the plug wires so maybe install the EDIS wheel and coil-on-plug. Will be gitting another street rod soon and may use the Megasquirt on it with a tuned port which has been offered for free! Which way to go????
