new build advise 240z with l28et

Post by bmcewen »

I have recently bought a 72 240z along with a 280zx turbo motor when I put the turbo motor in I will be controlling everything with the megasquirt and would like to hear some opinions/advice on what main board and version of the code I should use. Here is what I have planned so far:

280zx Turbo intercooled 300hp
automatic trans
possibly DIS
electric fans
street /mild autoX use

Should I acquire a factory ecu? Wll this make anything easier or just over complicate things?

Also I have successfully built and tuned the megasquirt on my 78 Camaro so this won't be my first time.

Any advise from people experienced with similar build appreciated as this will be my first Datsun/turbo build.

P.S. don't bother recommending a standard transmission I prefer auto.

There isn't anything the stock ECU would be used for in this situation except possibly ballast. Did you need the MS to control anything beyond fuel and ignition?

Maybe the electric fans, I might possiby need to control a transmission(gpio) some where in the future... no nitrous.

What do you mean by ballast Matt ? and what else could I be needing to control ?

This is my first turbo build and would like to use the ms as an electronic boost controller. Is this possible with the factory turbo setup? What would i need to chang eto do this? Any links to how to do this?

Keep in mind when I say mild AutoX I mean this is my girlfriends car and might see a handfull of track days a year. She wants it to be as modern and comfy as possible so it will be getting a/c, power steering, vented power seats.

Using electronic boost control would require the Extra code, covered on MSExtra.com. It could be run with MS2/Extra or MS3.
