I've had my vehicle break down twice on me so far. Repaired the apparent fault but the wiring to the coil persists in burning itself out. The two wires coming from the EDIS module to the coil are the wires which are burning out. Wondering what the problem may be? Fault with the coil?

Just curious here....

Are either the coil or module (or both) getting hot?

Obviously, something is drawing way to much current. I would suspect the coil by your description though.

What does the primary of the coil measure, resistance wise? What gauge wire are you using?

It happened again, after quite a few months... I was driving along the SAME road on a Sunday, too. I'm thinking I'd better not drive along that road anymore.

I changed the coil back to the original (second hand) Motorcraft coil and this seemed to get me by for the past few months with no wiring burning out until today. I have no clue as to what the issue may be, except, maybe, my spark plug gap is too wide? I'm running W25EDR-14 plugs that can't really be gapped due to having four ground electrodes, so they're gapped factory at 1.4 mm. Too wide? Apparently EDIS is supposed to be able to handle a gap this wide, but maybe not with a turbo? I don't think I get anything that you would call blow out.

One thing is for certain, I will be needing a new pigtail before I can drive it again as the wiring has burned itself out all the way to the connector. Anybody able to supply one of these?

As for what gauge wiring I am using - I'm using the same gauge wire that the pigtail was supplied with attached - I haven't added my own wiring. The primary resistances mesasure 1.1 and 1.2 Ω across the 1&2 and 2&3 pins on the coil (I assume this is what you meant by primary resistance).

Maybe these connectors I am using are suspect?

It seems the wiring burns out adjacent to them, rather than randomly or near any of the other connectors. Odd. Will look in to it.

Rule of thumb is only use a connector if there is no option. And if using one, it must be crimped using the correct tool - not pliers. So if using a pigtail, solder and heat shrink sleeve it. Neater too.

This can not be over emphasized, IMO. Mechanical connections are sacrificial at best!

I also noticed the gauge of the wires on one side of where I had the connectors (The EDIS module side) are thinner than on the coil side. Another reason why it may have burned out there :S Why would the gauge of wire be different? Anyhow I soldered them together and shall see how it goes until I get another pigtail...

The crimp tool was quite pricey. But worth every penny.
