No Crank Signal driving me up the wall!

Please help - this driving me up the wall and round the bend!

Setup - Lancia Montecarlo - EDIS and ITBs (Suzuki GSXr 750 K2) +30% injectors. Initially set up on rolling road 3 years ago and run without any issues.

MS2 - msq attached and log of starting attempt.

Approx 12 months ago, ram pipes fitted, along with airbox rather than socks - no problems encountered other than slightly more difficult starting.

Approx 1 month ago (after being not run for a few months) run over to a mates and left overnight (cutout not switched off and battery drained by relays - unconnected to engine). Serious problem starting again, but after boost and replacement of the EDIS fuse, got running. Thought initially thought it was fuel pump not running - but poss that it was not triggering. Ran home with no issues.

Fuel pump changed, thermostat changed, plugs changed from Iridium 9s to 7s. Issue with getting a tach signal to dashboard over 4000 rpm - solved by using shadowdash. Battery discharged, so charged and put back on but will not start. No cranking signal or tach signal on Tunerstudio, so assuming that will not trigger injectors or sparks.

Checked continuity of wiring from CPS to ECU and ok. Was working before.
Have removed CPS, cleaned and refitted. Confirm 0.5mm gap to triggerwheel and is concentric.
Confirm that both low pressure (swirl pot) and high pressure fuel pumps will work when connected to live feed.
have also tried live feed to EDIS - no start.
Confirmed resistance across CPS pin - no null or infinity reading.

Have tried with fuel pump prime in TS, still no start.

This car has run nearasdammit faultless for 3 years and now will not start! I have ordered a new CPS just in case but not able to test current one other than above

Can anyone help or provide any further pointers as I really don't understand what's happened!!

Thanks in advance and look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Darren

Are you getting a spark? EDIS will work (at fixed advance) without MS even present.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for coming back to me. No, no sparks either. Have checked ecu and when ignition switched on, all three lights blink on, but nothing on cranking. All fuses checked and nothing blown.

Cheers

Then ignore the MS and concentrate on why EDIS isn't working. EDIS bits are extremely reliable, so the likely problem is in the wiring. Check you have 12v at the module and coils - preferably by probing the connectors with them still plugged in. If this is difficult, use a 21watt test lamp. The idea being to check the circuit while it is drawing current - a DVM on its own doesn't.

Thanks Dave,

I'll get on with that when I'm back later and report on how I get on. Really annoying that all was working fine and it just won't start. EDIS I think is the key as you say.

More to follow.

Re: No Crank Signal driving me up the wall! - Solved!

Hi again Dave,

Two phrases spring to mind:-

1. Every day's a school day

2. Assumption is the mother of all f**k ups!

After having first checked that all fuses were present, correct and not blown, I moved on to other things as listed above. However, it transpired that the EDIS fuse whilst not blown, was not allowing current to pass through it! Changed for another shiny new 5A rated fuse and voila! Started on first turn and away again.

Thanks for the help Dave - now I can concentrate on setting up the warmup properly with the new airbox and also playing with the autotune feature.

Cheers

Darren

The MS instructions recommend a 15 amp fuse for EDIS4, 20 amp for EDIS 6&8.

All noted, thanks for that Dave, fuse upgraded!
