As clueless as possible Subaru problems

Post by Brennan »

Hello I'm planning on getting a mega squirt to run a JDM STi version 6 motor. I'm sure it has been done before because it's a common swap for guys going NA to turbo. My problem is that I don't know the 1st thing about where to start as far as planning what to buy. I'm going to pay to have one built for me but I've been told I need to know what all my sensors values are. I've started trying to figure out where I can find/get that information.... The problem is when I try to read any of the articles I've found its so far over my head that it doesn't mean anything.

Any help or pointers from anyone who has done it will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Ok, first things to do:

1. Draw up a list of what features you'll need the ECU to control. Fuel and ignition are probably a given here. What about things like boost or variable cam timing?
2. Figure out what sensors are on the motor already. In particular, look for a crank trigger wheel (I think it's often right next to the timing belt drive sprocket on these motors) and see how many teeth are on it.

As of now I need it to run:
fuel
spark
rev limiter
launch control (I think that's as simple as multi step rev limiter on a switch )
Anti lag ( I think all that is needed is an extra pulse of an injector on the exhaust stroke on a switch)
Boost
fuel cut if I go too lean

No variable time cams

I think that's all I need, its going into a non smog auto x car, I think I'm going to run an aftermarket temperature, rpm, speedo gauge, wide band a/f ratio

As for what sensors are on the motor right now I'll have to go to my storage and look it over I know it has a boost solenoid and waste spark distributor but that's about it as far as what I know right now.

This will require an MS3 for everything on your feature list. This one has a separate support forum at MSExtra.com.
