GM HEI and Flying magnet

Need some clarification. I am currently running magnetic crank trigger wheel to signal megasquirt. This is a flying magnet and not a vr wheel. I want to change to triggering off and hei. Do it need to change anything in the ecu itself as far as configuring goes? Or just change settings. My builder is not available to ask questions on jumpers. I am running direct coil for timing changes
Thanks

So my non hei distributor I am running now is used just to distribute spark since I am using direct coil for spark control and a flying magnet to signal it. The distributor has a magnetic pickup in it. Can I just use the magnetic pickup in the distributor to signal megasquirt without having to reconfigure it? Since both the distributor and crank trigger have 2 wire sensors it should work correct? I dont have an issue with direct coil. I need to get rid of the crank trigger because the pulley alignment is off with my front accessory drive I want to use.

It would make more sense to me to fit a 36-1 crank trigger wheel and sensor. Gives a higher resolution signal to MS. Which means faster reaction to any timing change mapped.
