HEI versus direct coil

Is there any advantage or disadvantage on the ignition set up? I am currently using a crank trigger and the direct coil method for ignition control. Engine is about a 450hp normally aspirated small block chevy. Any advantage to changing over to an hei distributor and pickup over what I am currently running? Street driven car with some autocross use. If not much to be gained I will leave it the way it is. The car is going to be rewired this winter and the firewall smoothed so now would be the time to change if any benefit. I was having trouble getting a clean signal off and a lot of ignition break up when I was orignally triggering off the distributor several years ago and converted to the crank trigger for input. The trouble was finally traced back to not enough/big enough grounds. Just wondering if any reason to switch back

Plenty reasons to get rid of the distributor and use multiple coils - either wasted spark or sequential.
