Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

Hey guys, I've just been mucking around with the 2.9 code and everything seems to be working well, however I thought I should add that it seems like your replacement maffactor.inc file must be formatted identically to the default file or TunerStudio may refuse to write the transfer function to the ...

Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

mrselfdestruct1994,
Glad the spreadsheet data was useful to you. As Al pointed out, in the low range, the exponential nature of the MAF curve can be approximated by a linear function. When using polynomial fitting, the resulting function can do odd things depending on the power used, amount of ...

Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

The shape of a MAF curve from 0 volts to .35 V is very linear, so that is what I would use (0 at 0 V. 69 at .35V and linear in between).

Thanks for that mate, just to let you guys know if you are attempting to replace the default maffactor.inc file with your own figures and you are trying to get ...

Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

You are correct in that the processor assumes that the 1024 data points you enter correspond to 1024 evenly spaced voltages from 0 to 5 volts. The reason for the large number of points is not accuracy, but to avoid wasting computer time doing interpolation. The ADC on the processor has a resolution ...

Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

Why do all that typing when it is available in a post by CRenner "fixitagaintony" in the predecessor thread to this one? He posts two ZIP files. In "mafsensors.zip" is a file "maf_summary_March_09.xls" that has the full data for volts vs airflow for the ford default.

Re: MAF and MS? part 2 with new 2.900 code

No problem mate, I may end up entering those values manually anyway as it seems prudent to me to try and use the transfer function supplied with the sensor. That's not too terrible though, maybe I can con a younger family member into doing it for a couple of bucks. In regards to the standard ...

Re: MAF and MS?

Your best bet is to load the attached code with a very minor change from the above code relating to injector test mode. It is labeled the same but has this minor change so you might as well use it. The main reason for switching is to use the 2.900 TS ini file that is attached. This should have the ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Well just another quick update, I tried the Hall Input Mod and used a transistor to drive the opto-isolators internal LED but didn't notice any difference so I swapped it all back, re-soldered all the components on the IRQ path and made sure all the wiring was 100% but still the issue persists. I ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Well after a bit more driving it seems that the improvement must have been a co-incidence as the problem is still apparent. Very dissapointing. :( I have also tried a 2k resistor thinking that if a smaller resistor reduced the frequency of the problem then a bigger one should make it worse, but ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

More updates: I tried a 680 ohm resistor and the dropouts seemed a little less harsh, so I tried a 380 and it definitely seemed to reduce the frequency of the problem. With a 180 ohm resistor it went a whole day without doing it at all which is a huge improvement and then this morning the issue ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Cool, I tried reading the signal this morning but even with a tiny transistor it still stalls the car if I try to take a reading from the IRQ pin. I might just try swapping the resistor on D2 anyway and see what happens but on the TFI mods page it doesn't give a recommended range, it just says to ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Thanks for your help mate, my friend has suggested using a small transistor to try and get a reading from the IRQ pin of the daughterboard so I am going to try that this weekend and see if I can log the issue. Hopefully there will be an obvious problem with the signal. In regards to the inline ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Hey Matt, thanks for the quick reply. :)

Unfortunately I have to confess that I have a big mistake in my previous posts. I went away to try adjusting the potentiometers as you suggested and couldn't find them on the board, so I called the friend of mine who assembled the MS2 for me and it turns out ...

Re: Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Edit: Sorry, I should have said I am using the VR input circuit, not VR/Optics. If a mod could fix the title for me that would be great. Thanks. :)

Loss of RPM Signal? TFI using VR/Optics Input

Hey guys,

I posted in another thread recently about a strange problem I have been having with my MS2 running 2.6 Firmware in my 6 Cylinder w/Ford TFI. In my attached datalog, you can see that at entry 3379 the rpm spikes to some seemingly random number, hold for a brief moment, and then return to ...
