Re: DB37 Ground Pins - any difference?

Thanks Matt.
So any of the ground pins at the MS DB37 are OK to use, ALA pin 19 on the relay board is connected to one of them. Same with the other ground connections.

Cool, this would be good information to have in the build instructions for relay board to MS cable assembly. That said, I guess ...

DB37 Ground Pins - any difference?

MS2/V3.0 with Relay Board

Connecting relay board to MS @ DB37, (pins 1,2, and 7-19 on MS) does it matter which pins are used for grounds? Are they all equal for main grounding or sensors?

I noted the wiring diagram for the relay board shows 1-18 as all connected together, but 19 is separate and ...

Subaru COPs wiring?

I'm wiring up to run OEM Subaru COPs directly from an EDIS-4 ignition module.

Looking for wiring information/pinouts for the COPs. Do they require any specific terminals to be positive and negative? Is there a way I can determine which pins/wires need to be which? These are 2-wire COPs and neither ...

Re: EDIS wiring question

Thanks for that Rod!
I'd posted similar questions on the sensors section and gotten some additional response there.
I decided to use the original ignition module mounting bracket that came with the module to mount it to the chassis. I was trying to figure out some sort of custom bracket to mount the ...

Re: IAC - Plumbing the inlet?

I think you're right David, maybe I'm making much ado about nothing! Your comment about the throttle valve itself brought that to light. No way it seals up 100% to the onslaught of boost pressure. The relatively small amount of air "bleed" from the IAC it likely of little consequence, and that would ...

Re: IAC - Plumbing the inlet?

I appreciate your thoughts David.
However, the valves by design are metal to metal seal. Any slight leakage could be compensated for by the Megasquirt ECU - in fact, I think some of these valve designs are intended to not 100% seal as they just don't need to. It may be the wrong valve design for ...

IAC - Plumbing the inlet?

I have the remote mount DIYAutoTune IAC housing and Jeep valve. Intending to run this on a turbocharged Subaru engine.
I wanted to do away with the bulky OEM IAC valve both for aesthetic reasons and to simplify the installation for Megasquirt control. While deciding where to plumb the air inlet for ...

Re: Shielded wiring questions

Appreciate the input guys.
FWIW, I already had a length of nice 2-conductor 20AWG braided shield wire I'm going to use. But - I noted (before I found what I already had!) this is very difficult to find, let alone in less than 100ft. coils. But - I did come across a great source that may help someone ...

Re: Shielded wiring questions

Thanks Matt,

Having a common shielded PIP/SAW cable simplifies the wiring!

Shielded wiring questions

Have a couple of questions about shielded wires - specifically the PIP/SAW and VR sensor wires.

PIP/SAW wiring - do these need to be individual shielded? Can a twisted pair inside common shielding be used instead? This would be both for relay board to EDIS module, as well as relay board to MS.

Can ...

Re: EDIS wiring question

Another couple of questions with EDIS hook-up and mounting - right to the point:
- Module mounting - is the unit fairly vibration resistant, can it be mounted directly to the car chassis?
- What about heat dissipation, or RF output? Anything I should keep it away from (like the Relay board, or other ...

Enclosed Relay Box

Figured I should start a new topic on this, drifted quite a bit from the original waterproof D-sub connector topic in my earlier thread.

This one will focus on enclosing the relay box, and basically doing what I can towards making the relay board a bit more survivable in the elements.

Picked up an ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

A little follow up to my quest to create a water resistant case for my Relay Board. I got the LMB Heeger EAF 200 case - and you were 100% on the money Ollie, the relay board will not fit completely inside the case as the relays sit a touch too high. Removing a portion of the upper case half above ...

Re: EDIS wiring question

Thanks for the info Heribert. I came across a neat conversion chart (with additional current and wire size info) here:
http://www.rbeelectronics.com/wtable.htm

Nice chart. Looks like your 1.5mm2 wire size equates to between 14-16 AWG, so 14 it is.

Your recommendation about the capacitor brings up ...

EDIS wiring question

Setting up a Subaru engine with MSII V3, relay board and EDIS ignition.
The Megamanual shows switched 12V coming into pin 8 on the EDIS module - and appears to be fed from an owner installed main relay (not part of MS or the relay board). It shows a 15A fuse on this line. This same line feeds power ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

Man - I'm really waffling on this project - but here's where it's going.

Time to revisit the goals - 1) water resistant with enclosed electronics, 2) sealed wiring going into the enclosure with strain relief, and 3) make it as compact as possible.

1) Checked the EAF/EAS 200 housing ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

Thanks for the details Ollie. Only drawback I can see by using an enclosed version of the original case is the lack of strain relief on the wires coming out for the sensors, injectors, etc. Due to lack of room inside the end plate I can't see being able to fit a standard (or multiple) gland or cord ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

Same company Ollie - it's one of LMB's "Cap Cover Chassis" - Model 643C. It's 3" high but I plan to cut that down to about 2-1/4" to just clear the relay tops. 6"x 4"x3" high. This would easily clear the relays, but too high for my application. I need to keep the overall height down to ~2.5".

FWIW ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

That is only a 25 way. Can you locate a 37 way waterproof?

I have soldered all mine in the past, no worries with them. They are supported in the D-SUB casing, and so there are generally no issues like stress points where the solder join is.

You have considered the main connector, but how are you ...

Re: Waterproof D-Sub Connector

I just looked at the housing assembly drawing - and it looks like the 25-pin connector supplied could easily be replaced by a crimp-terminal connector. That would seem so solve any issues about crimping vs. soldering! I do prefer the crimp-pin style connector - primarily because it's much easier to ...
