The MegaSquirt Project has experienced explosive growth other the years, with hundreds of new MS installations occurring every week - a phenomenal success! MegaSquirt has been successfully used in all aspects of Internal Combustion engine applications including R&D, Industry, Race, and Research. The MS project has transformed itself from a simple R&D project into a full-featured mature engine control system. To reflect this the support structure has also changed to meet the needs of MegaSquirt Users.
Moving forward, the R&D forums for MegaSquirt project are in a read-only mode - no new forum posts are accepted.
However the forums will remain available for view, they still contain a wealth of information on how MegaSquirt works, how it is installed and used. Feel free to search the forums for information, facts, and overview. While the R&D forum traffic has slowed in recent years, this is not at all a reflection of Megasquirt users, which continue to grow year after year. What has changed is that the method of MegaSquirt support today has rapidly moved to Facebook, this is where the vast majority of interaction is happening now. For those not on Facebook the msextra forums is another place for product support. Finally, for product selection assistance, all of the MegaSquirt vendors are there to help you select a system, along with all of the required pieces to make it complete.

I am using the an older still DIS module (pre 93) for my 2.4 twin cam engine. I am not getting a signal from my MS-2. I have followed the instructions to a t and still nothing. I am getting a tach signal from my module going to the MS-2 but that is it. Any help would be greatly apprciated.
I've been trying to help him over the phone. His MSII setup was sent out and tested by a re-builder. Everything checked out. The DIS module is getting power and he can observe an output with a logic light. He confirmed that the MS is wired for hall/optical per step 50a in the assembly guide. Even so MS is not picking up an RPM signal. So it is either A) this particular DIS module which I'm not totally familiar with is wired wrong somehow or B) this DIS may fall into the "hall input circuit mods" category. Anyone familiar with this problem?
Also 02z24sc if you could post what car you are working with, engine type, part number of the ICM, and version of the code you are using this would help.

I have an 02 Cavalier Z24 with a 2.4L twin cam (same as the Olds Quad 4). It use a single connector DIS module. I recently purchased a pre 93 ICM that uses a bypass. I have tested the system with a logic probe and found that the tach signal wire and the ref pulse input hi have the same signal, but it has to be grounded. I checked this signal at the ICM and at the input for MS-2. I know the ICM is working. I can also comm with the MS-2 through the lap top. The ICM wiring harness has been rewired to use the older style DIS module. Also I have tried both the ref hi (purple and white wire) and the tach (white) wire to get a signal through the box.
My first try at the MS I hade the VR sensor set up, it ran on the stim, but not RPM siganl. A car battery and a starter latter, I relized I made a boo boo.
I think he is using the Ref high and grounding Ref low too.

Thanks Lance. I didn't even know you could get away with the VR circuit in this setup.

Lance. I was reading the factory service manual for my vehicle's DIS and is sayd that the VR sensor can put out -125 to 125 volts (depending if you measure for the positive or negative lead). Does the MS2's board compensate for this with those R52 and R53 pots?...or do you have to build something to condition the signal so the voltage is reduced as to not "cook" anything in the porsessor and/or board?
What are you up to now? Are you going to hook your crank sensor directly to the MSII? This is what the VR circuit is designed for anyhow I guess.

Did Bruce tap some 240 from his buss bars on his breaker box of his house to test the VR? Hehehehe That's what I'd do anyhow........

Well I have some 480 volt 3 phase at work if you need to test anything. lol. Sadly, though they have a high "danger factor," industrial controls just aren't as fun as the MSII.

LOL...I was gonna say try some 3 phase 270 or 480 and see how that feels.
Lance you must be more resistant to shock. I HATE even a low current 12v zap from a car battery...and the A/C current is worse as you can feel your muscles oscilate at 60hz.
Oh, and Aj. I was have been thinking about other options as the DIS seem to have flaws when it get siganls from MS. I have a comlete coil on plg system form an ION redline, but I'm pretty sure that needs the 60-2 wheel and/or the cam postion sensor. Both of wich I don't have.....But the 2.2 Ions do use a 7notch reluctor ring and a coil over plud type of DIS, or direct fire....so I might see if I can get that stuff to work.
If that setup will work with the MSII then when I get my turbo motor done I'm definitely going that rout too. I just don't trust the Saturn ICM completely. Not enough experienced people have been able to test it out to be sure it is doing what it should. I'd rather not be hoping or guessing especially on a turbo setup.

Oh another thought is when the MSII Extra code gets under way it will have a second ignition output which will drive the OBDII ICM originally from our cars. It is a dumb unit that just controls dwell and fires each coil per signal on each input. Should be much more trustable.

Leave the sensor as is. Leave your wiring from the ICM as is. Just switch to the VR circuit and adjust like Lance said and let us know what happens.

Finally got the hall sensor to work. Had to a transistor to it. Now my problem is the EST. It will not go over 1v even with a booster. What can be done or is this normal. The icm is a brand new GM part.
