Yamaha YFZ450 VR Sensor

Post by darrenk »

I'm running the Megasquirt II V3 board. I can't get the RPM signal into the ECU. It is running a VR sensor (2-wire) and when I put a scope on it and take the spark plug out, I see one -400mV to 400mV pulse per revolution, and then what appear to be garbage on the line in the range of -5 to +5 mV between pulses.

I'm not sure how to configure the software on the megasquirt to read this input. I understand that I will probably have to adjust the pots on the inside, but I don't even know what version of the Firmware would be best.

I know coinsidentally when I ran the 2.5 code when I first tried to do this, I got an occasional RPM signal in the Megatune software, but then I upgraded to version 2.6 and started playing with the pots and now I'm not getting anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW: This is a single cylinder motor, and the "trigger wheel" is built into the alternator where one of the coil windings is replaced by a piece of metal. I was expecting to see a 12-1 pulse reading but that doesn't appear to be the case.

Thanks man, I will adjust those asap.

What settings should I put into the Ignition Options?

Should I run the 2.6 code so I can get the advanced Trigger Wheel setup?

Thanks in Advance

I got it to pick up the RPM signal by turning the pots all the way to the left, then running 2.6 code, and telling it I had no trigger wheel (by entering 0 in trigger wheel setup)

I can't start it just yet because I burned up the high current ignition driver somehow the other day, but I'll post progress here.
